I think the fact that LJ has badmouthed the Chiefs organization so much and has no respect for his coach or anyone else in the organization has a lot to do with it.Comment

It has nothing to do with amount of carries. It has everything to do with him getting a fat contract, which you should never give to a RB. LJ stopped caring and stopped running hard after that.Comment

That's not the way anyone should play the game but the toll his body took coupled with the Chiefs having no chance of a winning season whatsoever definitely sucked the motivation right out of him. He was playing for money, once he got it, he stopped caring because his body was broken and the Chiefs had no chance of doing anything anyway.
Again, not the right attitude to have but we don't know how much pain his body really went through during those 2 seasons.
Nonetheless, nothing excuses his outbursts and public humiliation of his coaches and organization.Last edited by Tailback U; 11-05-2009, 05:45 PM.Comment

His body isn't broken. It's not like he's been a workhorse for the Chiefs over his entire career like an Eddie George. The 416 carry season was his first full year starting. The year before that he split carries with Priest Holmes, and he rode the bench behind Priest for his first 2 years in the league. People always seem to forget that or just don't take it into account for some reason. LJ's body hasn't been taking a pounding his entire career. He took a pounding one year. I don't believe that one year broke him down.
If you put him on a good team with a good offensive line, then he'd still look good.Comment

But, I guess shit talking your coach is way worse then vehicular manslaughter.Comment

I knew plenty of guys that were absolutely shitty people off the field, but where great teammates on the field.
I knew a guy who had a full ride to Florida, threw it all away when he almost killed a kid in a fight. Did he have character issues considering his life choices? sure? Did he have character issues when it came to our football team and us being good? no, he busted his ass every day in practice, made everyone better, and was pretty much the sole reason we even won games that year.
Off the field he was a thug, and pretty much the equivalent to a shit human being. but on the field he wasn't, he was a great teammate.
I don't believe the Kansas City fans are upset with him because He's a shitty person off the field to his loved ones and himself, They're upset because he's being a shit towards the team and in a sense, deterring them from rising out of this slump they're in.
I understand where you're coming from, Derrick Thomas did an idiot thing and killed himself and another. But that Was Derrick Thomas off the field, He hurt himself and one other.
Larry Johnson isn't just hurting himself, He's hurting an entire fanbase, a team, and in some ways, The NFL and our ideal of what Football should be about.
Football isn't about individualism, the me attitude, or shit talking your opponents, your teammates, or your coaching staff, It's about everyone working together as one for the common goal. Derrick Thomas did that, Fans will always love him for that, and Kansas City will too. Larry Johnson is a cancer right now, and whether he's lost a step or he hasn't, what he's doing right now is worse.
Derrick Thomas may have fucked up his own life and another's by his stupidity, but the idiot in the car with him could have just as easily told him to stop or gotten out. That was HIS choice. Larry Johnson's actions off the field are his choice, but when he does things as detrimental to Kansas City as he's doing now, there's a clear difference.Last edited by ThunderHorse; 11-06-2009, 01:54 AM.Comment

He didn't play until his Senior year in college though, either. He doesn't have a lot of mileage compared to other RB's his age.Comment

Do you want to compare Derrick Thomas' accomplishments with Larry Johnson's? Accomplishments on the field overshadow whatever happens off the field if you're good enough. Larry Johnson wasn't good enough on the field for long enough to be the long-time douche bag he was off the field.Comment
