    Ravens’ Reed contemplating retirement
Posted: January 17th, 2010 | NFL.com Staff | Tags: Baltimore Ravens, Ed Reed

Moments after the Baltimore Ravens’ season was uncerimoniously ended in a 20-3 divisional playoff defeat at the hands of the Indianapolis Colts, a frustrated Ed Reed told reporters that he is contemplating retirement.

Reed, who just completed his eighth season in the NFL, said “it’s 50-50″ whether or not he’ll return for another season with the Ravens. Reed endured foot and groin injuries this season, his fifth in which he was selected to the Pro Bowl. In addition to those injuries, Reed has also suffered from a lingering nerve impingement in his neck throughout his career.

“I got great doctors that I deal with. So I’m going to re-evaluate things and see how it goes,” Reed told reporters following Saturday’s game. “At the end of the day, it’s my decision to play with injuries and to continue my career.

“I wanted to battle through this year, and it’s frustrating when you lose like this. You have to think about your family, and I have a family now, so that’s what I’m doing.”

Reed had an interception in Saturday’s loss, but was stripped of the ball by Pierre Garcon on the return. Reed was then robbed of another pick five plays later because of a pass-interference call on Corey Ivy.
Very surprised by this news, he's only 8 years pro.

No way, he has way too much left in the gas tank to consider retirement.

Given that he's already exceeded the average career, wouldn't shock me. For those saying he still has more in the tank, it's not your tank to worry about, he is the one with the aches and pains every Monday morning.

I doubt he retires, but if he doesn't want to come back for another year, I wouldn't blame him.

This came completely out of left field to me at least. I think a lot of this would have to do with just coming off a loss where you guys played pretty poorly. WIll have to watch and see if this snowballs.

It would suck to see him leave the game so soon.

It would be horrible to see him retire.

The PI call on his second INT was bullshit.

Not unexpected, but then again, not exactly expected either.
The guy is an amazing player but I wouldn't blame him at all if he decided to retire.

Yea, I watched the press conference and when he said that I was like... "fuck losing the playoff game and a chance at a title. I care more about Ed Reed not retiring and remaining a Raven then I do at a Ring."

Almost brought a tear to my eye... almost.

He's had a neck injury the past two years and almost retired last season so it's not really a surprise. I would bet that he comes back for another year, once the pain and emotion from the loss go away.

In any event, Ravens have prepared for it, Zbikowski isn't Reed but he's no scrub either, he played well filling in for him this year.
