Moments after the Baltimore Ravens’ season was uncerimoniously ended in a 20-3 divisional playoff defeat at the hands of the Indianapolis Colts, a frustrated Ed Reed told reporters that he is contemplating retirement.
Reed, who just completed his eighth season in the NFL, said “it’s 50-50″ whether or not he’ll return for another season with the Ravens. Reed endured foot and groin injuries this season, his fifth in which he was selected to the Pro Bowl. In addition to those injuries, Reed has also suffered from a lingering nerve impingement in his neck throughout his career.
“I got great doctors that I deal with. So I’m going to re-evaluate things and see how it goes,†Reed told reporters following Saturday’s game. “At the end of the day, it’s my decision to play with injuries and to continue my career.
“I wanted to battle through this year, and it’s frustrating when you lose like this. You have to think about your family, and I have a family now, so that’s what I’m doing.â€
Reed had an interception in Saturday’s loss, but was stripped of the ball by Pierre Garcon on the return. Reed was then robbed of another pick five plays later because of a pass-interference call on Corey Ivy.
