1. With lesser talented teams was regularly able to beat Young and the niners in the playoffs.

2. Miraculously survived all the hits at QB over the course of his career.

3. For a short span was by far the most dominant QB in the league.

1. Aikman , and Elway . Boys and Broncos assured Brett only has one ring to show during his peak years. Even if he grabs another one Elway going to 3 in a row then winning back to back , or Montana winning 4 including the one before Rice and co are just too much to overcome at this point.

2. He was still an INT machine. Noone going to forget just what a ridiculously careless QB he was without Holmgren. He threw away too many big games and playoff games. Noone will confuse him as the pure passer Marino was , clutch like Elway/Montana.

3. Being a selfish douche. His primadonna grandstanding , his total mistreatment of an organization that babied him , then half assing and dogging it on the Jets likely costing a coach his job. Then his grandstanding of his new head coach.
Unforgivable. You can get away with that if your some hot shot rook or young player...but at his age ?



Great resume , with another SB easily a top 7 QB ever...but GOAT.
Far too many HOF QBs with better resumes and far less negatives for him to be GOAT.

i don't understand the logic behind ranking Favre behind Montana and Elway because of Super Bowl rings, but then placing Marino ahead of him. is it because Marino didn't throw as many INTs as Favre? personally, i'd take the guy that wins more games and Super Bowls while throwing more INTs then the guy who doesn't win a SB but never throws INTs.

He couldn't publicly force Favre out so the only way to get him to leave was to make him retire. He did that by refusing to resign key offensive players or add free agents when the Packers were poised to make a run back in '07. Favre had another MVP worthy season (lost because Brady went 16-0) and led that team to a 13-3 record and lost in OT to the eventual Superbowl champions, just like the COWBOYS did the week before minus the OT.

When the events unfolded that sent Favre to the Jets, he played strong and the team was standing at 8-3 coming off huge road wins over the Patriots and undefeated Titans (by 21 points) and Favre's name was at the top of the MVP list. He then tore a biceps tendon and gutted it out for the rest of the season and faded down the stretch just like the rest of the Jets team. Hell the defense ended up being worse than the Lions in pass coverage in the final standings...there was no "Revis" island and Thomas Jones failed to get over 100 yards (might even have been 60sh) in December. That was a total team failure that led to Mangenius getting the axe.

I'm the biggest Favre fan around and even I have Montana at the top of my GOAT list. His performance in the regular season was solid but when the playoffs started, he was insane. Best clutch playoff QB ever.

You're kind of leaving out the part where after Brett retired Ted and the Packers were more than willing to bring him back afetr Brett said he wanted to come back. Even offered to go pick him up then....Brett changed his mind again and wanted to stay retired. At some point the Packers had to move on as an organization even after Brett changed his mind again and ended up going to the Jets. If Ted wanted him out so badly I doubt that he would go through the exercise of letting him comeback the first time before Brett changd his mind...

Well, you are trying to soundbite the whole twisted drama into one line but it is part of the larger story of "Team Brett" and I believe it more than I do the story of "Team Ted" that was manufactured by President Bush's Press Secretary, Ari Fleischer for everyone to regurgitate like it was actual fact. Also the offense isn't what let the team down in 2007 and 2008 it was the defense. So it's not as though Thompson not signing guys on offense had a major effect because on each of thsoe two season with and without Favre the offense ranked in the Top 5 and the huge difference to them falling to 6-10 in 2008 was the defense falling off the map.

Favre isn't a victim.

Let's be clear. NO professional athlete that makes over $1M per year is a victim. Brett has been compensated with enough wealth from pro football so that even his great-grandchildren will never have to worry about the light bill.

I don't really feel like typing out the whole sordid drama but at the end of the day, TT wanted Favre gone and the only way to do that and not be crucified in Wisconsin at the time was to make Favre want to leave. He did what he needed to do by making him feel unappreciated and over the hill. Does Favre have an ego? YES and a damn big one at that. I dare say any of us would if we had accomplished even 1/10th of what he has achieved in his NFL career. Thompson has quite an ego himself and thinks he can do anything through the draft while ignoring FA.

The last straw over their trust issues was when Randy Moss and Brett were talking in late February '08 and Moss said he still wanted to catch passes from him and would play for the Packers for what the Patriots were offering him. Favre relayed that Bus, who relayed it to Ted Thompson, who said he would call Moss' agent immediately. A couple of days pass and Brett is on the couch watching Sportscenter when the new Moss deal is announced with the Patriots. Brett calls Randy and asks why he didn't accept the Packers offer and Randy tells him that he never heard from Ted Thompson. One hour later, Brett calls McCarthy and says that he is going to retire. McCarthy calls Ted and tells him that Brett is done, Ted hangs up the phone and faps to his signed picture of Aaron Rodgers.

Ok, the last sentence is made up but it seems to fit the story :laugh:
