TUSCALOOSA — With all they’ve accomplished and as much as they have been dissected the past three, four or five seasons, Alabama’s departing players unveiled a few surprises at the Crimson Tide’s Pro Day.
All-American linebacker Rolando McClain revealed he has Crohn’s Disease.
McClain’s disclosure came as he explained his apparent exhaustion after Cincinnati Bengals coach Jeff Fitzgerald worked out the certain first-round draft pick and teammates Eryk Anders and Cory Reamer.
Bummer.
McClain is going be sliding a bit now.Last edited by SHOGUN; 03-10-2010, 04:25 PM.

I'd still take him in the top 15.Comment

Alabama inside linebacker Rolando McClain had appeared to solidify his stock as a likely first round pick with a pair of solid times in the 40-yard dash early during his Pro Day, but labored through the rest of his drills before getting sick. He later told scouts and media assembled at the Alabama Pro Day that he was suffering from Chron's Disease -- and has suffered from it since he was a freshman in high school.
Chron's Disease, according to WebMD.com is "a chronic inflammatory disease of the intestines. It primarily causes ulcerations (breaks in the lining) of the small and large intestines..."
Common symptoms of Crohn's include abdominal pain, loss of appetite, fever, and weight loss, among others. The disease affects an estimated two million Americans. Those inflicted have varying levels of severity, ranging from mild to quite severe.
The news of McClain's admission spread like wildfire over the internet creating panic. Would this drop McClain out of the first round? Is he still even a draftable prospect?
According to two veteran scouts I texted, the admission is much ado about nothing.
"Non-factor" one scout replied after I asked him how much McClain's Crohn's disease would impact his team's grading of the Butkus Award-winner.
The other scout was more specific.
"Jax QB has it. He's not had problems."
The Jax QB the second source was referring to is Jacksonville Jaguars starter David Garrard, whose testimony about his life with the disease isn't nearly as rosy as the one scouts laid out. Garrard, in fact, after trying various different prescriptions and losing 35 pounds, was ultimately forced to undergo surgery that removed "about a foot" of his intestines.
It would appear that wise teams will make sure to speak with their team doctors before making any final judgement on how Crohn's could impact McClain in the long run.
Doesn't seem that McClain's admission will hurt him too much, but maybe it hurts him just enough to make it to #26?

I would be so livid if Sean Weatherspoon ended up in New Orleans. That'd be almost as bad as seeing those fucks win a Super Bowl.
And CJ Spiller to Atlanta makes very little sense to me. Todd McShay, who is usually incorrect, will probably wrong about Everson Griffen too. I doubt we go DE in the first round, Dimitroff has already said he likes our DEs and will likely not take one with that pick.Last edited by NAHSTE; 03-11-2010, 02:18 AM.Comment

Originally posted by LaheyAnthony Davis' pro day sounded like a total fiasco yesterday ala Andre Smith at last year's combine. After what occured, I'm not sure I'd be too thrilled if my team picked him in the first.
Tim Brown checked in at 5'6" 155 lbs. Couldn't believe it.
Davis did no drills whatsoever after a terrible combine. The scouts who showed up are pissed.
Devin McCourty's stock is soaring though.

Mike Mayock just said on Path of the Draft today that Clemson DE Ricky Sapp might fall into the third round. I suppose his knee is a bigger concern than I thought.

Brandon Spikes can't break 5.0
Florida ILB Brandon Spikes was unable to break 5.0 seconds in the forty-yard dash at the Gators' Wednesday Pro Day.
His unofficial times were 5.02 and 5.08. Spikes is a big hitter with playmaking cover skills, but his forty will haunt him on draft weekend. Once thought to be a late first-round prospect, he may now struggle to go in the second.
So long to the first round. Looked at as strictly a thumper now.

Michigan CB Donovan Warren managed just 4.62 and 4.68 in the forty-yard dash at the Wolverines' Pro Day.
Confirming his mid-4.6 speed, Warren's stock is in free fall after a thoroughly unimpressive Combine. We'd be surprised if he's drafted on day two.
I like Warren as a prospect, but if he really is hobbled by an ankle injury like he claims HE NEEDS TO STOP RUNNING ON IT. He's only tanking his draft status by putting up these shitty times.
Come the fuck on, son.
