On a Dome Patrol side note: Surprised that Pat Swilling didn't garner more HOF votes and make it.

Very similar resume to Jackson's and has a DPOY award to go along with it as well.
I mean I know what LT did for the game as far as being such a impact player, but ALOT of the HOF is stats. Im just saying their numbers are pretty much the same. LT has a few more sacks and Jackson has like one more pick but other than that if you hide the names you wouldnt know who was who.

Maybe so, but if you watched them play, there would be no doubt "who was who".

Comparing a guy like Rickey Jackson to LT based on statistics would be like comparing Curtis Martin to Walter Payton. Or Keenan McCardell/Mushin Muhammed to Steve Largent.

Rickey Jackson never dominated football games all by himself, or was a guy offensive coaches stayed up all night preparing to stop. He was a good player. Putting a guy like Jackson in the HOF really lowers the bar, but the Football HOF always makes wacky decisions so it's hard to take it very seriously.

EDIT-A better comparison for Jackson, would be Joey Porter, but if i'm starting a team i'd take Porter over Jackson in a heartbeat. I dont think anyone would consider Porter a serious HOF contender.

EDIT #2-Kevin Greene was another similar player to Jackson who was superior IMO. Jackson was never an All Pro, i'm pretty sure Greene was multiple times. Greene was definately more feared and more of a difference maker.

Jackson and Greene each made the All-Pro team 3 times.

But I agree I think Greene was better.

I looked it up, and Rickey Jackson was never an All Pro.

Checkout the latest stats for Rickey Jackson. Get info about his position, age, height, weight, college, draft, and more on Pro-football-reference.com.

Where do you see 3? Are you counting the fringe All Pro teams (UPI, Sporting News, etc?), because he was never an AP All Pro.

Regardless, its a horrible HOF choice IMO.

Damn, if Carter, Brown, & Sharpe didn't get in that means Reed won't even get looked at till the 2012 HOF selection.

The guys picked are most deserving. John Randle scared me when I was a kid.

The Football HOF is always wacky, especially when it comes to WR's. How the hell is somebody like Cris Carter not a HOF'er?

Meanwhile, guys like Rickey Jackson & Floyd Little get in. Who would you rather have on your team, Cris Carter or Floyd Little?

Then you have dominant players like Aeneas Williams, who dominated his position for over a decade and was a Pro Bowl player at two postions, and he cant get past the semi final round. No GM in his right mind would start a defense with Rickey Jackson over Aeneas Williams. It's baffling.

I don't care how he got in, the point is he made it in. And Carter, Sharpe, etc didn't.

And that's why the Football HOF is so silly and illogical.

I keep hearing that they're lumping Sharpe in with WRs, which is just asinine to me. I know he wasn't much of a blocker but damn he only broke every receiving record for tight ends, and changed the way the position is played and was considered the best at said position for a decade. But Rickey Jackson gets in? Very good player, but HOF worthy? I guess? :dontknow:

Agree, it makes absolutely no fucking sense. There has to be some deep throating going on in some dark closet in an office somewhere.

Ricky Jackson, Floyd Little and Russ Grimm before Shannon Sharpe and Cris Carter (I may even throw Tim Brown into that as well)???? Get out of here with that shit.

I don't even know if I would consider Ricky Jackson a HOF, period.

Rickey Jackson would have never made it into the HoF this year if not for the "Who Dat" fever that is sweeping the nation right now. Sometimes timing is everything in life.

A complete sham that Sharpe and Carter didn't get in. I hated both of them as players but their statistics and impact on the game were 1st ballot induction worthy. Agreed that Dent deserved to go in as well but didn't think he was a lock.

That was the big push in saints land. Everybody figured he would finally make it just because we finally stopped sucking ass and won an NFC title.
