All I know is that in 5-6 years Zach Thomas better be inducted. If I am correct, dude has more tackles than any currently inducted HoF LB and only 4 or 5 other people in the history of the NFL have more tackles in their career than him (yes, even more than Ray Ray and Zach didn't play this year or 11 games in '07).

I looked it up, and Rickey Jackson was never an All Pro.

Where do you see 3? Are you counting the fringe All Pro teams (UPI, Sporting News, etc?), because he was never an AP All Pro.

Regardless, its a horrible HOF choice IMO.

Lots of hate for Rickey Jackson. To compare sack totals with Kevin Greene or 1st team All-Pro totals misses the point of his career. He was a very durable and highly productive player for 15 years. He was a great all-around talent, able to excel at both OLB and DE. I believe he is among the all-time leaders in fumbles forced and fumbles recovered (not to mention sacks).

He could have had more accolades (pro bowl, All-Pro), but it didn't help that his best years (1983-1986) were spent on some bad Saints teams, and that an NFC OLB spot was always going to be taken by Lawrence Taylor. Compare that to Junior Seau, who was switched between ILB/MLB/OLB depending on where he could be fit into the pro bowl lineup. IMO, people who diss Jackson's enshrinement just aren't familiar enough with his career. He is a fine choice for Canton.

That said, the HOF Committee continued its recent trend of absolutely awful selections. I am assuming this is because more ESPN morons have been added to the voting constituency.

Floyd Little is not a HOFer. Nice player, but Otis Armstrong and Terrell Davis were better Bronco RBs before injury. Awful choice. Larry Brown was better than Little, and he played at the same time as Little.

Dick LeBeau is not a HOFer. If they had a lifetime achievement award, then perhaps LeBeau would be a good choice. Questionable choice.

Russ Grimm isn't a HOFer, either. I guess they wanted a representative of the 1982 -1987 Redskin O-lines, but Jerry Kramer and Bob Kuechenberg had much better careers than Grimm.

Very bad selections this year.

Shula was put in only two years after he retired from coaching.

Does a coach have to retire and wait 5 years or can he be elected while he is still active like LeBeau was or was Leabeau put in simply ased on hismerits as a player?

I'm not really hating on Rickey, just didn't think he would make the cut this year compared to some of the guys on the list.

Agreed on Floyd Little, I read a few notes from Peter King that said he felt like he got in because of the impassioned presentation from the Denver sportswriter that spoke to the voters about his candidacy. That concerns me because I thought the NFL stood for National Football League, not National Forensic League.

IIRC, a coach doesn't have the 5-year waiting period. In fact, I don't think they have any waiting period...they can be enshrined as soon as they retire. This allowed Joe Gibbs to be in the HOF and still coaching in his second go-round with the Skins. It was also used as a reason not to have Bill Parcells on the ballot every time he quit, because people expected him to take a new job shortly thereafter.

As for LeBeau, thats a good question. I assume he is in because of his merits as a player and a coach, because I don't think he was THAT good of a player, and if he was, then his name would have come up as a HOF candidate before now IMO. It is weird, though, because I can think of only two guys who were enshrined for their combined player/coach merits (Walt Kiesling & Jimmy Conzelman)...but LeBeau being mainly an assistant coach is odd. It might open the door for football lifers like Howard Mudd (Very good player, great assistant).

Should be really interesting. I mean this might open the doors too for guys like Buddy Ryan. If LeBeau can get in maybe it let's a guy like Buddy Ryan get more nods down the road. I know Ryan wasn't a player but he had almsot 30 years of really great success as a DC and then even as a coach of Philly.

Rickey Jackson had more career sacks than Derrick Thomas, and was a better player against the run from opinions I've read. I don't think that's a bad selection.
