If USC is hit with major sanctions then it is a disaster for the Pac-10. USC is the only team that makes the conference respectable and not having the Trojans on television would be horrible for the conference as a whole. On the bright side, maybe Oregon State would be televised more often. Plus, USC is still damn good. So what happens when they win the conference? Does the 2nd place team in the conference go to the Rose Bowl or do they let the Rose Bowl pick whoever they want in the nation? Not having a Pac-10 team in a BCS bowl would be another blow for the conference. If any teams were to benefit in the Pac-10, they would be Oregon, UCLA, Washington, Cal, and Stanford in that order in my opinion. I would say Oregon State but who am I kidding? But, really I think it benefits the big boys like Alabama, Florida, Texas, and so forth.Last edited by Emac78; 02-27-2010, 11:05 PM.Comment

You blatantly try to say that Michigan doesn't pay recruits as much or as often as other big programs, but I bring up probably the highest paying recruiting scandal for any sport in the last 20 years and you try to disregard it. Face it, Michigan has done that before, they have gone all out and sold their soul for talent. Why wouldn't they do it again considering you are so set that EVERY school does it?
P.S. Michigan was a huge program and on par or bigger than just about any football program in the nation just a few short years ago.Comment

Ive always loved Neuheisel since i was a bandwagon colorado fan in the early 90s, lmao. I still cheered for UK but i loved watching them as well when they were good. I hope UCLA gets their stuff together and curbstomps USC for years to come.Comment

I remember Terrence McCoy's quote on why he picked A&M.
"They take care of you down there," McCoy said. "I know from my brother they keep your pockets full, give you plenty of money, keep feeding you meals. Besides that all the help they give you with football. They keep you on your grades with private tutoring. Just good all-around."
Like Kle said, stuff like this happens at pretty much every school. It's bigger at some schools than others.
But my bestfriend from HS was Russ Okungs roommate for 4 years at Okie Lite. I know they used to go and 'work' at a driving range that belonged to a booster and got paid like $20 an hour.Last edited by longhornfan; 03-01-2010, 10:19 AM.Comment

That's big coming from you. Seeing as how you're an Ore St fan...
You keep saying every single one... So even the sucky, small-profile, Sun Belt schools? I mean, it wouldn't surprise me, because they're not under the microscope (being small-profile), but still... Troy, CMU, FAU?
Eh, you never know.Comment

You really need to get your head out of the clouds. College football isn't as pure as you think it is. It's just as much of a business as professional football, and it all starts in recruiting. Every school cheats, it's just a matter of how well they can cover it up and what they can get away with. I'd give examples, but 1.) nobody here would believe them, and 2.) they're big enough where I don't want to be called into an NCAA hearing for them.Comment

i never saw anything like what is being insinuated by KleShreen, teams dont blatantly pay players... yea there were boosters giving guys "jobs" and paying them $30/hour to do nothing, but nothing horrendous... we didnt grease guys on recruiting visits, we just got the hottest girl we could find to give them a tour, and our best/most famous player at the position they were projected as as their host... ive seen a lot of morally/ethically wrong things both as a player and coach, but nothing illegal (as defined by the NCAA handbook)...Comment

as long as they are there, actually doing something and getting paid only for the hours they work (not like the OU thing), its not illegal... if the booster wants to pay them that much, its his prerogative, but athletes are only allowed to make so much money a year (it used to be $2500, but that was 5 years ago), so its kind of irrelevant...Comment
