Endzone celebration penalty called for..... falling over?

So I was thinking last night as I was complaining in the chatbox about the bullshit endzone celebration penalty that was called on Dallas, which didn't cause the big kick-off return but it sure didn't help.

Everytime Witten scores he gives the ball to Columbo to spike it. It has been happening for at least 2 years now and no penalty was ever called. I thought it was weird that they called it now.

According to an article I was reading. The flag was thrown not for the spike but for the chest bump between Witten and Columbo that caused Columbo to fall to the ground. Once Columbo hit the ground they threw the flag.

Now call me a homer or whatever but, ARE YOU SERIOUS!? Can the NFL get rid of these stupid celebration penalties and can the refs use some damn judgment when making a call. Clearly Columbo wasn't dancing on the ground or roping a cattle.

This was not the sole reason we lost and I am not blaming the loss on that one penalty but this shit is just getting more and more ridiculous.

On a side note. Say Dallas scores and goes over to the sideline and celebrates, would that constitute an endzone celebration penalty?

I heard the same story, and its incredibly lame. Similar to the Calvin Johnson "non-catch", the NFL is hiding behind the "Well, its in the rulebook" argument. Again, the NFL has too many rules and the refs aren't allowed to use common sense. It seems like nearly every game I see this year has been marred by excessive penalties, and many of these violations had no direct impact on the play.

On a side note, I've never seen a coach have worse luck than Wade Phillips.

i dont want NFL refs using their own judgment. These old fucks make some of the most idiotic mistakes that dont require judgment.

perhaps the cowgirls player should have just trotted to the sidelines.

the nfl frowns upon the celebrations because fans frown upon it. So these rules are trying to control it. Stupid is an understatement, but thats the NFL for you

"Common Sense" would never work in the NFL, they just need to change the rules. Like after Calvin Johnson made that "catch", the ref instantly threw the flag. To him it was common sense but another judge may think diffferently. Gotta go by the rulebook.

Stupid penalty. It was enforced when Columbo spiked the ball, because that's technically a two-man celebration and TDs can only have one main person celebrating I believe. At least that's what Simms and Nantz were saying on the broadcast, but then again, it is Simms and Nantz, lol.

I still think we would have won either way though.

You might have still won and like I said, that penalty didn't cost us the game but it didn't help us either. As I stated, Witten ALWAYS gives the ball to Columbo to spike after he scores a touchdown. He did it all last year and the year before. Never has it been called a penalty. The flag was thrown because you can't go to the ground to celebrate.

                Also, Simms is a retard.

What? I have NEVER read about a fan frowning down upon celebrations. Where did you pull that from?

Jeff Tripplette is a piece of shit, btw.

Same guy who gave the Packers 3 challenges and blew that fumble call in Green Bay last year.

I find it amazing guys can literally damage stadium property in celebration and not get flagged but a guy falls down because he is a fatass with no balance and it's excessive.

                    What a joke.

I thought it was because Witten handed him the ball and Colombo spiked it?

I thought it was because the celebration went against the "Rooney Rule".

What's the beef? He broke the rule, he was flagged. It's not like it was a secret.
