Shawne Merriman finished in San Diego

Interesting that the Chargers are letting him go. I don't follow them that closely so I don't know if it is being done with cause or another head scratcher personnel move from the "Lord of No Rings"

@Adam_Schefter Chargers placed linebacker Shawne Merriman on Reserve-Injured with a calf injury.

@Adam SchefterThis means Merriman must be released by the team when he becomes healthy. Career in SD over.

@Adam Schefter Distinction to be made here: Shawne Merriman can play again this season for another team. But he is finished in San Diego.

@Adam Schefter Once Merriman is healthy, which could be in a couple weeks, Chargers must release him and he is free to sign with another team this season.

@Adam Schefter Shawne Merriman: "I'm approaching this as an opportunity to grow as a player and to bring my leadership, talents to a new organization."

@Adam_Schefter Merriman: "I'm ready for the next chapter in my career and I am excited about the opportunity to continue my journey with a new team.”

Bring him on to GB. He's use to the 3-4 already. I can't imagine he'd be anything more than a cheap buy at this point.

I don't get it, he gets hurt and they release him? Is there something to this I don't understand?

Best reason to have a license.

He's only 26 years old. Amazing how quickly the Chargers are putting him on the road.

I was thinking the same thing. Kid is from Upper Marlboro and he went to Maryland. Close family and friends should help him get back to where he was. Plus with Orakpo on the other side he'll be able to get some numbers again.

Would be perfect for him to come to Green Bay but since he is not "Packers People" it would never happen.

Would love to see him sign on the Jets for depth, he fits the profile.

Anywhere out of the AFC east except the Jets.
