I don't see the talent or awareness in Scandrick but I guess that is where we differ. I would love to be proven wrong but I just don't see it happening.Comment

I think the problem with the team has to do more with discipline than schemes and formations. Though throwing less would definitely be a good idea. I don't think Jones is a bad GM - they have compiled a lot of talent; they just need to build-up the offensive line. :ionno: Nothing new to be said here.
I just wonder how Garrett's going to change anything. And if he fails, who's going to be the end-of-the-year replacement? I'm thinking someone from the college ranks.Comment

Confirmed.
I don't find it odd at all. Garrett had the title of Assistant HC/OC but he barely talked to the D at all. He didn't agree with much of the things Wade did or how he ran the team, but he did respect the chain of command and understood no good could come of him undermining him, especially in Dallas where the media is constantly looking for any sign of turmoil.
BTW, more stuff that's coming out that is downright infuriating to me.

IRVING – The players didn't have to wait for the first practice under Jason Garrett to realize a difference.
"Let's get moving," Garrett barked as the horn sounded and a group of players sauntered over to stretch. "We're not walking. We're not walking."
The first hint that the head coach is serious when he talks about structure and accountability didn't come earlier in the day at the 8:15 team meeting.
The doors to that meeting, by the way, closed at 8:13 a.m.
No, the Cowboys had a pretty good idea on Tuesday's day off that it would not be business as usual at Valley Ranch. That's when several of them received texts to be at the facility on Wednesday by 6:30 a.m. for a 7 o'clock meeting.
What words come to mind to describe Garrett?
"I don't know if I can say it," receiver Roy Williams responded. "Hard-ass. Hard-butt.
"And I like it."
Subtle and significant changes were evident Wednesday as the players returned to work for the first time since the dismissal of Wade Phillips. Garrett set the tone for this 1-7 team and let everyone know what is expected over the final eight weeks of the regular season.
Players practiced in full pads for the first time since training camp. They are expected to run from one drill to the next, not walk or jog. Defensive end Stephen Bowen noted none of the players had time to sit on the water cooler during practice as they have in the past.
There were no card games during the team's afternoon break, no domino marathons as there have been all season.
"For me, it was good just the way he came in there and took charge," linebacker Anthony Spencer said. "The things he was saying, the things he wants to get done. He got straight to the point.
"That's definitely what we need now."
Phillips is more conversational and often relied on relationships to make his point. Garrett's approach is more business-like. That came across as he outlined his plan in the team meeting.
Cornerback Mike Jenkins brought a notebook to the meeting for the first time since his rookie season to take down what Garrett had to say.
"There is zero gray area there," linebacker Keith Brooking said. "It is black and white. Very direct and to the point. No misunderstanding.
"I've been hit in the head a lot, but I could understand what he is saying when he stood up there and communicated to our football team. I believe in anybody like that."
Tight end Jason Witten has always said that Garrett does a great job of living in the now and moving forward. Everything points forward. There is no time for reflection. Not with the players, not with the media.
Garrett's afternoon news conference was a lightning round. He gave a brief opening statement, then answered 38 questions in less than 14 minutes.
Emotions? He's excited about the opportunity.
Lineup changes? Garrett won't talk about them. But he did let the team know it doesn't matter, "whether they're Pro Bowl players, drafted players or undrafted free agents. We're going to play the best guys."
His sideline routine now that he's offensive coordinator and head coach? It will be different.
How is he different from Phillips? Garrett isn't interested in comparisons. The New York Giants will be at the Meadowlands on 4:15 Sunday afternoon (3:15 central), and they're a good football team.
The whirlwind of the last 48 hours? Did you not hear Garrett say the Giants will be waiting for them at 4:15 Sunday afternoon in the Meadowlands?
"We've got to go," Garrett said. "The Giants don't care about this coaching change. The Giants are getting ready to play on Sunday afternoon."
Would that be 4:15 Sunday afternoon?
"It's a new day for me," Jenkins said. "It's a new day for everybody. It's a new coach, a new start.
"We are going to run with it."
It's no wonder the team had no sense of urgency about it. It has to be a small miracle shit didn't completely fall apart sooner.

But you're right. There shouldn't be a sense of lackadaisical-ness in practice. Maybe they don't need to sprint between every drill, but it beats the hell out of walking.
In any case, I certainly can't imagine them doing any worse under Garrett than they have under Phillips. Should be fun to watch. And here I was hoping they would fall out of the media spotlight. Oh well! =PComment

I don't if anyone has heard, but Garrett had them practicing in full pads.
Any chance Urban Meyer ends up coaching Dallas?Comment

LOL at thinking making guys show up at 6:30 for a 7:00 meeting is going to change anything or prove things are different. I hate dumb ass ball coaches.
dont tell me Its mandatory to show up half an hour early for something or I get penalized. T
hats insulting if not just down-right stupid...the seasons overComment

WTF was this idiot doing conducting practices like that? This is basic shit! Training camp stuff! Where was the attention to detail? Where was the consistency?

Alot of these guys were the same fucktards who were all "what a great approach..we needed this type of coach" blah blah after they grew tired of Parcells angry tough man approach.
Too many players are bitches. You need to keep the ones who will bring out the bitch in other people inline and you need to realize these players will abandon your approach the instant your playcalling doesnt work.
This isnt a team of Randy Mosses but you have to worry about how easily this team quit on Wade.
Time period is now to weed out the bitches.
I will say Im going to watch Garrets playcalling like a hawk. Im eagerly awaiting the I told ya so card I can play if the offense suddenly looks balanced and smart.
Coaching is hard , managing players today makes it even harder.
We'll see how Garret does after the initial HOORAY spurt is over.
Its still Kitna at QB and Phillips took over playcalling because noone else understood how and when to attack.Best reason to have a license.

Now imagine trying to do that with one of the worst lines in football and a group which constantly shoots itself in the foot with bonehead penalties and mistakes that you want to correct, but cannot because the "guy in charge" doesn't believe in running the play over and over again until the team gets it right.
Even with those problems, to constantly be among the league leaders in yardage (albeit not points), is a hell of an accomplishment.

They don't need to be managed, they need to be pushed.

As far as the defensive play calling, again, Garrett tried like hell to bring in a certain guy who's now calling the defense in Green Bay. Just sayin.

Based on what I know about Garrett, you're flat out wrong on that point. Not only has the "swagger" been minimal (big difference to me between false bravado and swagger) As far as his demeanor, I'm not saying he's gonna be Vince Lombardi, all fire and brimstone. He will, however, unlike Phillips, hold players who don't give maximum effort accountable.
You're basing too much of your opinion on him on his playcalling, and let's face it, he's known for two years now that he's been handicapped by that offensive line. I've said before I think he'll eventually be a solid HC in the league. Don't know if that time is now, but if it's not, he fails, and we bring in someone else next year. We're not losing a damn thing giving him the job now and an opportunity to prove himself.
But above all else, you need to understand that the way he wants to run things could not be more different than the way Wade did.
And if I'm wrong? Again, someone better suited replaces him.
I hope he keeps the job. I like what I saw.

Not sure why a victory in his debut changes that...Comment
