I think Jerry is making Garrett the interim coach right now knowing that there is little that Garrett can do to right the ship, which frees him to relieve Garrett of his coaching duties in the offseason and bring in a real NFL caliber head coach.

Having a top 3 draft pick along with Jerry's deep pockets would be a nice incentive for many candidates.

I don't know if this is a firing as much as it was a mercy killing. This team is going 3-13 with Wade Phillips or the driver of the team bus. This isn't an audition for Jason Garrett, he's just a guy with a headset and a pulse.

this. he cant just fire garrett with wade, he has to let garrett hang himself. this way he can just say at the end of the year he is interviewing coaches and garrett will be among them. now if only jerry would hire a gm and let him work...

There might be the slight chance that Garrett's a better HC than coordinator, a la Sean Payton.


But I doubt it.

He does have a chance to gain immediate respect in the lockerroom by benching certain underachievers who Wade was coddling (Davis, Barber, Jenkins, et al).

We'll see. 8 game audition for both Garrett and a lot of these guys.
