they will be an early playoff loss contender and nothing more

Isn't MVP decided before the playoffs start? Even if they are an early exit, it shouldn't have any effect on the MVP voting. Anybody know exactly when MVP voting takes place? Am I wrong?

really?? and this is based on 1 MNF game?? i am not saying he cant play cause he definitely can play in "Todays League".
he defintely gets "comback kid" in my book but lets face it.
QBs this year suck ass. they are all having a mediocre year compared to the years past.

It's not based on 1 MNF game, it's based on his play all season long. Now 17 touchdowns to 1 turnover. Remarkable.

It pains me to say this as a Raiders fan, but, Phillip Rivers is the fucking shit.

Philip Rivers is doing a great job spreading the ball around. To have the top passing attack without a true number one WR is remarkable. I looked at their reception totals and there are at least 10 guys with double digit receptions, and 5 or 6 in the 20s.

He's still a bitch, and until he does it in the playoffs he's not going to be considered Manning/Brady level elite, but he's making a strong case this season.

I still want to see how things play out, but for now, Vick is my leader in the clubhouse. The difference in that Eagles squad with him in the lineup is night and day. And he's been flat out unstoppable. If that continues, he'll win the award going away.

                Two things:

                1. Your initial point/context is how Rivers is doing all this with sub par talent hwoever you demand him to "do it in the playoffs" with an inferior surrounding cast that you already pointed out. These two points don't seem to jive. If you are openly admitting Rivers is doing a great job with less talent than most other QB's than it seems that demanding he "do it in the playoffs"( I assume you mean win) against teams that will be better than the Chargers in the toughest conference in the NFL seems a bit off.

                2. Rivers isn't horrible int he playoffs anyways. His career record is 3-4. He hasn't been spectacular in the playoffs but you could argue too that he's had players aroudn him like LT choke on it come playoff time as well.

                  1. True. It is unfair to praise him for doing more with less then expect that to continue against top teams. Like Drew Brees before him though (and Manning to an extent), until he puts together a notable team accomplishment, the lofty stats will ring hollow.

                  2. Also true. Norv Turner is the reason they suck in the playoffs.

I guess from a leadership standpoint though, I'd like to see the Chargers not choke this time. They don't have to win a certain amount of postseason games for me to "accept" Rivers as a top QB, but I'd like to see a bit more from him in big games to gauge his maturation process.

I think Philly's season wouldnt be that much different with Kolb. They would probably still be a playoff contender.

However, I can't imagine SD winning more that a game or two at this point without Rivers.

                    1. Rivers
                    2. Vick

Let's not forget Brees was a Favre INT away from sitting at home again.

To say because Favre threw an INT that Brees isn't a choker anymore I'll never get. I never thought Brees was a choke artist but a play he had literally nothing to do with doesn't really change anything about the way I view him.

                        Agree with Rivers point.

Absolutely disagree with Vick point. All I see out of Kolb is someone who is serviceable. When Kolb is on, I see the Eagles as a +/-.500 team and his record/playing has shown it. Not to say Kolb can't win, but Vick is on a whole 'nother level.

I'd say Rivers is still the leader.

Manning is out of the conversation, Vick is still in the mix, so is Brady, and throw Matt Ryan in there now that Atlanta is separating themsleves a bit from the pack.

As much as I fucking hate that douchebag, I say Rivers is definitely MVP if SD makes the playoffs. If not, Matt Ryan.
