It's being focused on now in light of the Reggie Bush scandal.

Frankly, if your one of those that believes Cam Newton had no knowledge whatsoever of his father soliciting funds, than you are pretty damn naiive. That said, Cam Newton was the best player in CFB this year, no doubt, and deserves the trophy.

A couple of years down the road, if/when the FBI investigation uncovers anything further, then yeah, it was probably a good decision to leave him off the ballot. But as of right now it just makes them look like dumbasses. The award is about the players, not them.

And when does Newton NOT display a lack of integrity at Auburn? He jumps up into the stands, DURING THE GAME! That shows a complete lack of respect for not only the other team, but also the entire game of football.

And why do you think David Palmer didn't win the Heisman in 92 or 93? It's because he had a DUI.

Integrity is only brought up when it is an issue. There hasn't been a 13 arrest player as good as Newton in recent years, so why should it have been brought up?
Lol. Him jumping into the stands is a lack of respect for the entire game of football? Please, as far as I can tell you're a Bama fan looking for any reason to discredit dude at this point.

It makes me no difference to whether me or not he knew. I just don't care and am not going to feign anger over a player allegedly having knowledge of his father trying to get paid by MSU. NCAA cleared him so they're the naive ones I guess. Like you said he's the best player so he deserves the trophy.

wow, some people actually show some back bone and don't suck the newton kid's cock and under the bus they go? cam newton cheated, period. it wouldn't shock me at all to have him make it to the nfl and become a chris henry or pac man jones. integrity and personal responsibility are things missing from not only sports but the general mind set of today's youth.

Shocking that half the site actually thanked this piece of shit post.

It's laughable that the NCAA cleared him, whether he actually knew what his dad was doing or not. Now everyone can just use the parent excuse when they take money. Awesome.

Intergrity has always been part of the voting. This punk has been arrested a dozen times, and his father shook down the entire SEC for hundreds of thousands of dollars and pimped out his own son. Fuck him, I wouldnt have voted for him either. Fact is, the kid shouldnt even be playing, but we all know why the NCAA overlooked this one. They display this type of hypocricy all the time. Too bad more of the voters lacked the spine to do the right thing.

No, the award is about them, they vote on it. And they can vote for whoever they want. And since integrity is part of the criteria, it's perfectly reasonable to not vote for Newton. Or Peter Warrick. Or whoever else.

I think it's pretty irresponsible of the voters to overlook Newton's transgressions.

The NCAA is the governing body and they have cleared Cam Newton of anything involving his father's shakedown requests. Should we just let the sanctimonious sportswriters and VSN posters take over collegiate football? Doesn't matter if he is guilty or innocent, you nor the sportswriters had access to all of the facts and were in position to make the final ruling. You have to respect the decision and move forward as if he is innocent since his name was cleared.

No, I don't have to respect the decision, and neither do the voters. It doesn't matter to me if his name was cleared, because his father being mixed up in it is the same as Newton being mixed up in it. Even if Cam was ignorant to his fathers actions, he still needs to be held accountable. Since when is ignorance an excuse? Iif Cam Newton was a third string OL for Kent St (or the best WR in the country playing for ...oh, I don't know, Oklahoma St or something), he'd be banned. So please, enough with the shady NCAA double standards as the basis of the argument.

Integrity is part of the criteria, and Newton has zero. I have no problem with some voters having the balls to do the right thing.

Who cares how is NFL career turns out. There's been several Heisman winners who end up flaming out in the NFL for whatever reason. If it happens,he won't be the first and he won't be the last. Heisman is a college award.

And if you don't respect the NCAA's decision then take up the issue with them. They're corrupt as hell, rule over a sport where all kinds of shady shit goes down. Knocking Cam off your heisman ballot isn't gonna change this, the problem is deeper than him.f

                    :obama:

Can we stop perpetuating this myth here? Seriously? The investigation is STILL OPEN. I repeat, since I've had to post this like 10 times in the last week ... Newton's investigation is not yet concluded by the NCAA.

Not to mention the ongoing FBI investigation into Auburn athletics. His name wasn't cleared, the NCAA chose not to punish him yet based on the limited evidence they have gathered.

Again, not that I care, give him his Heisman, but people are being really fucking retarded here in thinking that Cam isn't a scumbag.

Don't go to the Bama fan bias, because if that was true, I would want LaMichael James to win the Heisman, but I don't, because he has shown a lack of integrity.

And how is jumping into the stands NOT a lack of respect? Before celebrating with any teammate, he jumps up into the stands and throws his arm in the air like he's God or something. He doesn't congratulate anyone on making a key block; he just feels like he's entitled to everything.

How he hasn't gotten flagged for excessive celebration a dozen times this year, I don't know (actually I do).

If I was just being a Bama fan looking for any reason to discredit dude at this point, I would have brought up how he doesn't wear a mouthpiece (a violation in the NCAA rulebook). But, seeing how it is very trivial, I won't.

I don't really take issue with what he does in the stands, but this part is true. If AJ Green got flagged last year for just raising his arms to the crowd ("drawing attention to oneself" is what the rule says), then I'm amazed he hasn't gotten flagged at least once.

Not that I agree with the excessive celebration ruling, but I do find the double standard strange.
