If by "crazy academic standards", you mean the standards used everywhere but the SEC, then yes, they are crazy. A gerbil could pass an Auburn class if it could hold a pencil.

These are football players, outside of Vandy, Stanford, Duke and a few others 99% of these guys wouldn't qualify for their school without football, and almost all schools operate under the same standards for academics, with a little variation based upon how willing the administration is to put up with it.

Terrelle Pryor currently carries a 3.2 GPA and was Academic All Big-Ten the past 2 years, despite not declaring a major and the fact that all he does is sit in class with his headphones on and sleep. Goes on everywhere in 1-A football.
