While people wait to see where Plaxico Buress could end up following his release from prison, another former Giants standout could shockingly be returning to football.



Tiki Barber and his agent told FOXSports.com Tuesday that the former Giants running back has decided to return to the NFL.

"After seeing my brother still have fun at our age, it reignited the fire. I'm really looking forward to the challenge of seeing if I can get back to the level of where I was," Barber, who turns 36 in April, told FOXSports.com exclusively. "I started working out again recently. It kind of shocked myself. I still had a lot of the strength I had before. I'm really looking forward to making a return."

"We filed papers for Tiki to come out of retirement" Barber’s agent, Mark Lepselter, told FOXSports.com. "We filed papers with the commmissioner's office and the Giants. And there are interested parties."

The Giants now have to activate him and then decide whether to release or keep him

His old contract isn't valid so he has to work out a new deal with whomever ends up with him.

What player would want to "play for the love of the game"? Making large amounts of money should be motivation for anyone to pursue a career in professional sports. IMO 70% is probably too low.

Of course making large money is motivation to do just about anything.

I suppose what I'm trying to illustrate would explain why I prefer watching footie or hockey to NFL. While those other athletes do play for money, there is also a deep desire to win, to sacrifice themselves for the good of the team....which is very rare in the NFL.

I suppose I would have preferred the NFL more before money consumed the athletes into becoming egomaniacs.

In the end, if the only reason they play a sport is the paycheque, then you the viewer/consumer/fan, are not likely getting your money's worth to see them play.

Well the quote I was referring before (It wasn't posted that long ago here, someone help me out) was a player stating that he believed 70% of the NFL played for money and nothing more. They didn't care about getting a ring.

This isn't ME, this is an NFL player saying this. They would know, I kinda wouldn't.

Regardless, there's no comparison to hockey and football when it comes to passion and commitment to winning. None.

Jay Quitler?
Randy Moss?

There's 3 high end players of the top of my head without even needing to think, that I can accuse of not having the heart I expect from a pro athlete. Quitler is debatable and I don't care to get into it, but that's my opinion.
