I think it's pretty safe to say that Dez Bryant has character issues and if he doesn't simmer down then he might develop into another TO/Moss type of WR that plays for a different team every few years.
What I am concerned about is that he doesn't seem too bright.

I actually talked to a few people last year who both directly (assistant coaches, scouts) and indirectly (friends of teachers, etc) knew him and the consensus on them was pretty much that he's a good-hearted kid who has bad influences around him. The word "diva" gets tossed around so easily when it comes to WRs, but he doesn't seem to fit that bill when you really examine it. The people I speak to out of Dallas say similar things.

I certainly don't think the kid is perfect. He has a lot of growing to do and he had better do it quick. He appears to need to have his hand held going through every day sort of situations, for example managing his money as you've seen.

But all this labeling that goes on with him is downright ridiculous. The Moss comparisons don't apply because he's never had his effort questioned nor has he ever had drug problems or been kicked out of a college (suspension notwithstanding, he would have been welcomed back to OSU had he not come out last year). The TO comparisons don't fit because unlike TO, he has actually admitted to mistakes he has made and has never been accused of throwing teammates under a bus or splitting locker rooms. Look at this Baldwin kid from Pitt coming out this year for an example of it actually happening at the college level.

I mean, can the guy at least do something that warrants that type of criticism before he actually gets labeled? I realize at this point it's too late, people are gonna think what they want about him, but a lot of it is off-base.

Immaturity is my biggest concern with him. Other than that...meh, not really. I've seen far worse come through here in my time and be successful.

That is exactly what this thread was missing. Bucky's love for Jennings (and Driver).

What I have learned in this forum in the last two weeks:

          1. Cowboys players are treated poorly in the press.

          2. It was Darrent Williams' fault he got shot while being an innocent bystandard in a car.

          3. Rayman is the Cowboy loving alter ego of BigBucs.

This fucking offseason cannot end fast enough...

look, whether or not dez plays for dallas, he is an idiot, period. from his taking money in college to him not carrying the pads as a rookie in practice to his bling debt and his lack of decorum at the mall. is he talented? maybe. is he just a another dumb egotistical wanna be thug who will eventually burn out and blow every dime he ever made? it sure seems that way.

what my dear friend rayman is blinded by is his undieing love for a team that is basically oakland east. it happens more often than you think and to a lot more people than you realize. true, it mostly happens to those with low IQ's and self esteem issues, but hey, everybody's gotta be something, right? I mean if it weren't for people with personal issues who would we have to throw money at at a strip club?

You can twist it however you want to and say "he's not like Moss or TO because" whatever but you are missing the point. Of course Dez is not going to make the exact same mistakes that Moss, TO, Pacman, Plaxico, or any of the other hundred dumb shits in the NFL.

The point is that he is not bright right now, is being labeled as an idiot for the right reasons right now, and looks to be headed down the wrong path.

Don't get too caught up in the specifics of how people are labeling him or comparing him to mistakes that other players have made. All that matters is that he is being compared to them because he is acting like a dumb shit. End of discussion.

                  Immaturity isn't his issue.
Being stupid and immature are his issues.
All these comparisons to Randy Moss are insane. Moss was an all-pro as a rookie and incredibly productive for most of his career.
Comparing Bryant to Moss is ridiculous on every level. Bryant is a knucklehead who doesn't produce, Moss was a knucklehead who produced at an all-pro/hall of fame level.

The Cowboys have to do their best to maximize this situation, so simply cutting Bryant is stupid and pointless. Get him help the second the lockout is over and hope he can spell cat when rehabis over.

He didn't put up Moss numbers in his rookie season, but that kid is as physically talented as any wide receiver in the league. It's only a matter of time before he is arguably the best WR in the league.

Once again, you guys are taking these comparisons way too specifically. Comparing him to Moss is not ridiculous at all - both are talented and not the brightest of guys. That's all you need to compare the two. Stop over analyzing the comparisons.

I don't think I'd put him in the Moss category. Moss actually did jail time for battery before he stepped on a college football field, and tested positive for mary jane while serving his sentence.

Bryant's problem is petulance and immaturity, which puts him into a "T.O." category IMO. I don't think his issues has put him into the point of no return. His issues are not that much different than a lot of NFL players in their early 20's.

His suspension in college that effected his draft status put him on the radar, which is why the issues are a little blown out of proportion.

However, being an Eagles fan, I would do cartwheels if he was found in a hotel with three hookers and a pound of blow...

Indeed, but Moss produced at a hall of fame level and, I could be wrong here, has he ever been charged with anything serious as a pro?

Oh hey, look who is in the news again:

Cowboys WR Dez Bryant will have more on his mind on Sunday when he heads to New Jersey to play the Giants. The mercurial playmaker is facing another legal battle, this time in the backyard of his team’s bitter rival.

Endurance Capital Fund, a NY-based micro-finance company, is alleging that Bryant borrowed $100,000 and has refused to repay the full amount owed. The debt is now over one year past due, and Bryant currently owes more than $50,000.

Bryant has been involved in financial and legal woes before. This offseason, it came out that he owed more than $800,000 in two lawsuits. This, however, is a new one. And it just may spice up an intense NFC East rivalry.

ECF, which works with athletes and entertainers to help them purchase luxury items such as cars, yachts and vacation homes, is in the process of attempting to serve Bryant with a lawsuit, but he has managed to avoid the process servers in Texas.

Representatives for the company may try to serve him at the team hotel, but it also may wait until next week or whenever the Cowboys season is over.

Cowboys spokesman Rich Dalrymple declined to comment, citing the team’s policy on such issues.
