Originally posted by amarantIt has absolutely nothing to do with me being an Alabama fan at all. It has to do with common sense. An LSU plays a schedule infinitely more tough than Boise. If LSU goes 9-3 I think that is much more impressive than a team of the same talent(theoretical) in Boise running 13-0 with 10 blowouts because they played in a very weak conference and had a very weak OOC schedule. They should not get priority to even get into a playoff because then they have much less miles on their season than the guys at LSU do and if they are of the same talent, month off or not, Boise would still have the fresher personnel. Which then you are getting into a territory in which its much more favorable for a team like Boise who never plays anyone to begin with to win out.
But really, as an LSU fan who has seen my team benefit greatly from the screwy system twice in my lifetime*, I'd love to see playoffs.
I get what you are saying, and nobody would ever dare argue that the SEC slate isn't the most grueling in the country ... but if we're so tough and superior to everyone else, I say fine let's line 'em up.
Put a trophy on the line and let me play these supposed weak sisters of the poor in a round one game. Then let me run rough shod through the shithouse Big Ten or Pac-12 teams we make fun of so often. If the SEC is as tough as we hope/think/boast that is, there should be no problems.
As a fan of the sport though, I just want more compelling and legitimized competition.

i only went back the last two years but the SEC is 11-7 in bowl games I believe. If someone else wants to go back further but SEC isn't even that strong anymore. I think SEC teams are way over-rated.Comment

Originally posted by amarantYeah but Boise sure could try lobbying to get into a conference that plays tougher games rather than move to conference in which all the plausible teams are bailing out. They didn't even give it a chance to get invited to the new PAC 12. Just jumped WAC to MWC as fast as they could. Almost like they are avoiding trying to get a tough schedule.Comment

I assume this was some sort of elaborate scheme to keep playing a weak schedule, right? If that's the case, they would have just stayed in the WAC.Comment

Look, there's controversy in every sport. Being on the bubble in college hoops is one of the most talked about subjects leading up to the tourney. The point is that we must create a fair system for determining a national champion. There will always be controversy no matter what you do, but it will be greatly reduced if you have eight teams vying for the title over two.
I'm just gonna stop you right here. You're obviously pro player and anti owner. Just by your wording. Really? Players have NO demands? The owners will ease their demands, the players will be forced to give?
The owners are trying to get more control over the companies that they OWN. You act as if the players own the NFL teams. But this is for another thread, so you can have the last word about this. I'm done hijacking here.
Percentage of All Revenue (By League Year) received by Players
200251.87 %
200350.23 %
200452.18 %
200550.52 %
200652.74 %
200751.84 %
200850.96 %
200950.06 %
Yes...damn those players indeed, taking all of the money.
Did you know that while NFL owners complain about financial risks, players contributed $800 million to the new Meadowlands Stadium for the owners of the New York Giants and Jets, and contributed $300 million to the new Dallas Cowboys Stadium?
Did you know that NFL owners have rejected the unions request that players get ownership stakes in return for assuming financial risk?Comment
