It's tough to speculate on which QB gives the best chance to win. On one hand, Crist has a strong arm and the measurables to be a good QB, but struggled handling the full playbook and can't seem to stay healthy for a full season.

On the other, Rees is undefeated but appears to have limited arm strength. Kelly also scaled back the playbook and turned more to the run game to help him out. We also saw the emergence of the defense when Crist got injured in the Tulsa game.

I like Fox making the starting lineup. He should have more range than Carlo, and if he's been holding up against the run in camp, he could be a good complement to Manti.

Not shocked at all in the Crist being named the starter. Nor am I surprised about Slaughter. I'm not a huge Motta fan though at this point Surprised about the Carlo thing though.

Another one? I thought a series was agreed on a year or so ago.

Well I did this last year too, so I am bored waiting to head out so let's do it again. My position by position break down/analysis/prediction/whatever.

EDIT: After typing out my QB thing and seeing how long it is, I am just gonna do the QB today. And I was thinking everyday for the next week we can all put our 2 cents in about the position. It would be cool seeing where everyone stands on some players.

              Sat-QB | Sun-RB | Mon-WR/TE | Tues-OL | Wed-DL | Thurs-LB | Fri-DB

              Cool beans?

              QB
Hyped position battle. Start of summer I wanted Crist to win and was pretty certain he would win. Junior, waited behind Clausen, 5 star out of Cali, looks like a NFL QB. I think having another NFL style QB succeed can only be good for bringing ND back to the national level, just for the public's perception of the team. But after watching every game again over the summer, spring game, and various highlights from practices, I started to convince myself that I would feel more comfortable with Rees starting. While Rees did make plenty of mistakes, had a running game and a defense with him, I just feel like Rees can run the offense better. It is no secret Kelly runs a simplified offense for Rees and Crist, but it just seems like Rees runs that much better. With Crist his accuracy is a problem. Sure he can run a little and has a cannon, but this team doesn't run that many deep passes as it is(minus jumpballs to Floyd so he can rape the DB). When Crist runs the offense, everything seems too boom or bust. It is either a 10 play 80 yard drive where this team looks BCS caliber, and then they will go 3 and out for 2-3 drives and look just out of it. With Rees their aren't a ton of big plays, just a slowly managed game and some consistency. I hope Crist thrives and Rees sees a little bit of time. But I am not as confident as I hoped to be.

Then we got group B with Hendrix and Golson. I hope they see some time this year, just not during important drives. I like what Hendrix brings. Has a cannon, can move, tough, and I feel like a solid NFL guy if he gets a chance to prove himself. I hope he sits at 3rd on the depth chart and gets to learn and watch some more. He has 4 years of eligibility so he still has plenty of time to make an impact on the program. I just hope he gets a chance. I say that because Golson looks to be the guy Kelly wants back there. While Golson does add an explosiveness that nobody at QB has brought in a while at ND, I don't really buy the idea that he is a pass first, run second QB. I know he is young, and probably not 100% with the offense, but when I watch him he seems to want to jump around a lot. And since he ran a similar offense in high school, I would think he is more comfortable then he is given credit for. With no QBs coming in this year, it is basically these two guys for the future. Right now I would prefer Hendrix get the shot first when the time comes but I know a lot of people love what Golson does and brings to the team.

                Nice write up Irish.

I guess I disagree with the entire Rees thing. 4-0 at the end of last year was great and all but I have to think that if the defense was as good as it was early in the season with Crist Notre Dame would have had a much better record before he went down hurt.

Rees career at ND IMO is pretty much done. Crist will play this year and next season you'll be seeing a Hendrix/Golson battle. Rees will be a great footnote/trivia question much like Matt Lovechio. I like Rees as a player....but let's not kid ourselves. He's most likely the 4th most talented QB on this roster and if the defense continues to progress and Crist stays healthy this team is better with Crist under/behind center.

Crist seems alot like Mathew Stafford, immensely talented but injury prone. Rees is a game manager alot like Tent Dilfer. No really fantastic plays but not many bonehead ones either. Hendrix needs time to develop. 2 years in the system should do. Can't wait to see him next year. Golston could be great but we won't see him this year. I really like where we are at QB wise, but we'll see how well Rees does this year when Crist goes down again.

Honestly...if Crist goes down this year...I think we will be seeing Hendrix if it's any point past the middle of the season.

IMO also, it's Golson's job to lose going into next season. He's tailor made for this offense and has really impressed the coaching staff and team with his willingness to learn, his leadership, and his progression since he stepped on campus.

The only way we see Hendrix this year is if both Crist and Reese go down (god help us). I really like Golson, I want to have an athlete at QB again. Haven't had that since... ummm... Arnaz Battle I think. But with BK's O you need at least 2 QBs because his QBs always get hurt.

Not one worth a shit since Kevin McDougal.

Also, random but I just realized Emeka Nwankwo transferred to Western Illinois University after last season.

                          WTF?
