JaMarcus was a high risk pick who had to be in the perfect situation to succeed, IMO. He was in the most imperfect situation he could find himself in, and yeah, his own flaws only exacerbated that.

I love the guy and I will always remember the countless jizzworthy memories he gave me, but he had more red flags than the Chinese capital. He was always going to be a disaster on the Raiders. Terrible organization for a kid with makeup issues to be given the keys to.

Take your LSU blinders off. Yes, there are other number one picks with those huge contracts, but there are HUGE differences between Russell and all the guys you just mentioned.

First off, none of the guys you mentioned held out for money past the regular season. Alex Smith, if I remember correctly, even took a pay cut.

Second, none of the guys you mentioned ever came into a training camp at 300 pounds. Russell's work ethic is awful. His own life coach, John Lucas, gave up on him.

Third, none of the guys you mentioned were cut. As mentioned, Alex Smith took a pay cut, but the Niners still wanted him and he legitimately has fought his whole career for his starting job. I can at least credit him for that. Russell was flat out given the axe because the Raiders didn't want to deal with him anymore and they wanted to get as much money as they could back from him.

Last, all of the guys you mentioned are still in the NFL and are all still starting. No team in the NFL wants anything to do with JaMarcus Russell.

Why am I mad at him? He's awful and just can't accept that he played awful. He can't just come out and say "my work ethic is terrible" or "I have an addiction to purple drank". No, it's "I have apnea" or "I didn't let the other team score 42 points." Well, first, there are players in the NFL with far more severe health problems than fucking apnea who are great players (Jay Cutler and diabetes, Ed Reed's neck, Philip Rivers played with a fucking torn ACL). And yes, you didn't allow 42 points, but you didn't help your defense with all of your goddamn turnovers. So yes, some of the blame falls on you.

So you're saying that his huge waste of a contract wasn't one of the reasons we had the lockout? Yes, I'm aware of the others contracts that were bigger than Russell's. I said that his contract was one of the reasons why there was a lockout.

Of course apnea is potentially fatal. It's your respiratory muscles completely stopping. But from what I know, apnea can occur from drugs and I have every reason to believe this stems from his problems with codeine.
