    Official Baltimore Ravens Forum Thread

Well I'm seeing these pop up every where so may as well make one for the Ravens.

Jason Brown Looks To Be On The Short End...

And the first domino has fallen. According to an NFL source, the club has informed center Jason Brown that he is not in their plans for the 2009 season.

Brown, who turns 26 in June, is expected to garner immediate, strong interest from four or five clubs when the NFL’s free-agency period opens at 12:01 a.m. Friday. Brown started in '06 and '07 at guard for the Ravens, before moving to center to replace Mike Flynn last season.

The move to let Brown leave allows Baltimore to focus on its two free-agent linebackers, Bart Scott and Ray Lewis.

Negotiations are ongoing with both players -- with the expectation that the Ravens will be able re-sign one, but not both -- and are expected to run up to midnight, when the club will lose exclusive negotiating rights.

Losing Brown sucks, but Chris Chester played well at G last year so hopefully he can take over and do well at C. I think the team will probably draft a C as well since we have pretty much no depth now.

I hope they get it done with Scott. Preston says they are 400k-700k apart, so I'm hoping they settle that and get it done before midnight. Could care less about Lewis considering the recent comments he's made. I very much hope they don't overpay for him.

NFL Network, has been saying all night that. If Ray isn't a Raven next season, he'll be a Jet.

They also said if Bart Scott isn't a Raven, then he'll probably go to Miami. Jason Brown is also said to be ending up in Miami.

Report: Ravens offer Lewis $24M over 3 years

The Ravens have reportedly offered free agent Ray Lewis a three-year, $24 million contract with $17 million guaranteed.
It's a plenty fair offer for the 34-year-old, but Lewis still thinks he's worth more. He wants $10 million a year. Meanwhile, Baltimore has reportedly proposed to give Bart Scott $7 million annually. With the free agency period just minutes away, it appears both are poised to enter the market. I like Foxworth at UM, but sort of lost touch with him when he went to Denver and eventually Atlanta. I asssume he'll replace aging Rolle and eventually pair with Fabian Washington.

So, it appears the Ravens are going to lose Bart Scott, Jason Brown and Jim Leonard......Meh, I guess that isn't too bad as there are replacements already waiting.

Fuck Lewis. If he turned down 3/24 with 17 mil guaranteed, which is absolutely ridiculous for a 34 year old LB, fuck him. Let him go to Dallas or wherever. I don't really care. I hope other teams don't go after him and he comes running back here with his tail between his legs, AND we take that offer off the table and give him something less.

Ozzie has dropped the ball big time. It's no wonder the offense is consistently bad, instead of paying Jason Brown, we are trying to pay a 34 year old defensive player 17 mil guaranteed. Instead of signing a great young LB in his prime, we are trying to pay a 34 year old 17 mil guaranteed. Terrible.

As if it weren’t bad enough to lose linebacker Bart Scott, now the Ravens are in serious jeopardy of losing free-agent linebacker Ray Lewis, too.

Sources close to Lewis were adamant Friday that one of the game’s greatest defensive players will not return to Baltimore and his career with the team is over.

For some reason, Lewis has been rubbed the wrong way in the lengthy negotiations that have occurred between he and the Ravens. Now, Lewis is determined to move on, even if there is no obvious suitor.

The Jets are expected to spend about $8 million per year on Scott, the Dallas Cowboys have insisted they will not be signing any high-profile free agents, and there are no other teams that, at the moment, jump out as potential landing spots for Lewis.

Thus, one of Lewis’ confidants was asked if it were possible that the Ravens now could change their linebacker’s mind. “Not if you knew Ray like I knew Ray,” was his response. He even mentioned retirement as a possibility ahead of returning to Baltimore and insisted it was not a negotiationg ploy. “That’s Ray,” the source said.

For now, Lewis plans to take a couple of days, ponder his plans and then come up with his gameplan. But his gameplan now does not include the Ravens, according to those who know him. Thus Baltimore could wind up losing Lewis to another team or retirement, Scott to the Jets, center Jason Brown to the Rams (Brown is scheduled to visit St. Louis) and cornerback Corey Ivy to the Jets.

Change came to this country in January and it looks like it’s coming to Baltimore as well.
Yeah, I guess 17 mil guaranteed would rub me the wrong way too.

Sources close to Ray Lewis tell Adam Schefter that Lewis "will not return" to Baltimore and that his career with the team is over.

This could be a negotiating ploy or emotions getting the best of Lewis. Don't assume he's gone. The Ravens offered Lewis $17 million guaranteed Thursday, a very good offer, but he's upset with how negotiations have gone. We highly doubt he'll get a better deal elsewhere. With Dallas and New York apparently not interested yet, there are no obvious suitors
