Because the regular season is still in process, and if the goal of the conference championship is to put the 2 best teams in it, then it should be LSU-Alabama.

Ah that is where you are mistaken. The goal of the conference championship is to stage a game between the winner of the East and the winner of the West, and to make a shit ton of money. It has always been about that.

The very concept wouldn't even exist in CFB if the SEC hadn't arbitrarily invented it 20 years ago. After it became wildly successfully, then other conference followed suit.

zoneblitz is getting caught up on semantics... yes, Bama is probably the second best team in the nation, but they are not the most deserving (since they lost an essential playoff game at home to LSU)... and yes, UGA is deserving of playing in the SEC CG b/c they took care of business and won their division in order to make the CG, so regardless of how good a team we perceive them to be, they did what they needed to do to make the SEC CG , Bama didn't... i hate the BCS, but them's the rules and life isnt always fair...
