Cutler out 6-8 weeks with broken thumb

    bummersaurus rex.

Vaughn McClure of the Chicago Tribune reports that Cutler will miss 6-8 weeks after he undergoes surgery on the thumb.

That timetable would allow Cutler to possibly return for the first week of the playoffs. The Bears would be lucky to get that far without him.

The Bears are 7-3 and have the following schedule: @ Oakland, vs. KC, @ Denver, vs. Seattle, @ Green Bay, and @ Minnesota.
i agree with Florio, that team looked like a Superbowl contender the past few weeks. I really beleived the NFC North would send 3 to the playoffs.

    Also truth:

The improvement of Chicago’s pass protection has been overstated. So much of the Bears passing game revolves around: “Let’s watch Cutler make throws no one else can.”

What is the difference between his broken thumb and Roethlisberger's? Why is he out 6-8 weeks but Roethlisberger won't miss any time?

Severity hasn't been determined yet. They just know it's broken and the "general timeframe" is 6-8 weeks.

Cutler did complete 2 passes after injuring it on the Cason interception.

They've still got a really good defense. Not out of the question that they could beat KC, Seattle, and Minny. Possibly even take one of the Denver/Oakland games. KC and Minnesota aren't good teams. Seattle is below average. Denver is one-dimensional. Oakland is getting better, but still not quite clicking. The Bears aren't dead yet.

I don't like how Mike Martz has a unjustified hatred for Caleb Hanie.

I wouldn't say beating the Eagles & Chargers, and Detroit's one dimensional/average defense team qualifies as "looking like a playoff contender", but I get it, the Bears are in the playoff hunt. Cool.

But yea, I like Caleb. I mean he's not a franchise QB, but he's a good backup for being relatively unknown. I don't think he's the kind of QB that Martz likes to work with, but I expect he won't be outright horrible in the weeks to come, especially if they lean heavily on Forte.

If he would start praying for starving kids in Africa instead of a 50% completion percentage, the world might be less shitty.
