That said, he leads the best team in the country in tackles with 66, has 2 interceptions, 6 forced fumbles, 4 fumble recoveries and has scored 4 touchdowns. And all you want to talk about is coverage technique? Man, fuck a coverage technique. This isn't the scouting combine, this is the Heisman. It's about big plays and leading your team. Mathieu is the heart and soul of the best team in the country. If he doesn't get an invite to NYC it will have nothing to do with his coverage skills.

I am not disagreeing with you, bruh...I think he's had an outstanding season, but you talkin about the Heisman...if you are a defensive player, you need to be the Alpha and the Omega as a defensive player to even be invited, nevermind win the damn thing. Charles Woodson, Ndamukong Suh...that level of domination.

Sorry, bruh, but Woodson and Suh, Honey Badger is not...

Yet you'd give him a Thorpe Award?

Seems like questionable logic to me. Regardless I don't think he should win but a token invite to NYC in this barren field of candidates does not seem like too much to ask.

        Very true.

Suh was maybe the most dominant defensive player in the last decade and didn't even get a Heisman vote...let alone get invoted to New York.

So, Thorpe award winners should be invited to the Heisman ceremony...good to know.

This convo looks like it could be too much for you.

You say he's not a Heisman candidate because he isn't good enough at his position, yet say he's a candidate for the award given to the best player at his position? Claiborne should win the Thorpe and Mathieu should be a Heisman finalist.

RG3, Mathieu, Luck, Richardson and Ball are finalists.

Always hate when they invite five guys, seems like a cop out. Could have done without Ball, IMO. He has no shot of winning and 10 years from now nobody will even remember his season.

I think people will definitely remember his season considering the TD record chase.

Until last week I had no idea Ball was even chasing the record.

And now that I know..I still don't care.

Why not invite 5? A guy like Ball isn't much of an NFL prospect, so he'll appreciate an opportunity like that all the more. And his year has been comparable to Richardson who will get invited to everything under the sun. Let the guy have his day.

Oh yeah, and RGIII was the best player in the nation this year. But he'll never win it, because he plays for Baylor and they aren't a big deal and won't play for the NC this year. Don't you love when the vast consensus of fans could do better at making the NC and picking the Heisman than the many people whose job it is to do those things....

Who do you think will win it if RG3 isn't? I thought it was pretty much common knowledge that RG3 was walking away with this trophy?
