apparently the fusion finally happened.
Manning is supposed to be open to higher intensity workout now.
idk if this means hes throwing the football yet but it's progress none the less.Comment

It could happen that they draft me first overall to play quarterback too. it COULD. This is about as likely as Indianapolis absorbing a 30 million dollar cap hit, or any other team willing to pay that kind of money for Manning. He's damaged goods and the Colts fucked up handing him that kind of money. It doesn't matter what he's done in the past. the fact is he has had to travel outside the country for experimental stem cell surgery that is banned in the US. That's "never playing football again" kinda shit right there, and "Bill Polian is fucking retarded for not putting an injury clause in the contract when he knew Manning was about to go under the knife to prevent PARALYSIS FROM THE NECK DOWN ON THE NEXT HIT HE TAKES."Comment

I don't beleive that shit for even a second. It's pretty clear the Colts are on a serious PR campaign lately to try to show that there is still some hope for the team. Axing the DC when the Head Coach was already effectively the DC, switching to Orlovsky, and this nonsense where "Peyton has been cleared to potentially increase his work load slightly assuming he responds well" is just a smokescreen to get a few more butts into the seats as the season winds down and as some half hearted attempt to pretend they arent Sucking for Luck (The Colts, being the one team in the league I actually beleive to be doing so) after all the heat they took for not claiming Orton. Indy is a team whose owner speaks pigeon english on twitter on a regular basis. they do care about public perception, and they are just trying to give their fanbase something to cling to.Comment

Your thoughts on Indianapolis public relations aren't unique, you're not alone in that sentiment or line of thought. this was painfully proven in 2009.
as for the coaching changes. Coyer needed to go, Coyer needed to go last year. I find it hard to believe Jim Caldwell, the former Quarterback Coach, is also running the defense, especially seeing as he's an offensive guy but he is the head coach. However if they'd have kept Coyer people would be bitching even more, the guys defensive scheme is a fucking joke (whether that's his fault.. or Bill Polian's, is another debate entirely).
What else is the FO supposed to do? they haven't given us anything to be proud of this year. I would rather hear about Manning possibly being able to play next year as opposed to how Bill Polian believes the strength of our team is the RB positionComment

The Colts did put a clause in Manning's contract where they only have to pay part of his contract if he doesn't come back from injury.
Orlovsky is better then Painter.Comment

The only team that I could believe that would suck for Luck is the Colts though. Remember this is the Irsay family........don't put anything past them, for better or for worse.
The Colts have just invested heavily in weapons for Manning throughout the years on offense that they have neglected the defense. Of course, they have the bookend defensive ends, but there is a lot of money tied to them as well, and Bob Sanders got paid quite a bit off reputation and sat on the IR for a bit. They just need to overhaul the defense this off-season via draft and free agency, and look for some offensive line depth.
Easier said than done, I know.Comment

Freeney, Sanders, Heyden, Brackett, Bethea and Bullitt all got good/great extensions on their contracts... Jerry Hughes was also a first round pick on the D (lol).
They didn't ignore defense at all. They just spent money on mostly average/injury prone defensive players.Comment

I hate this argument.

I hope Manning stays in Indy. I could see the Chiefs trying to get him since they are gigantic pussies when it comes to drafting their own franchise QB. Manning might win a playoff game or two....just enough to make KC's front office think that they can continue their chicken shit plan of attaining QB's for another 20 years with no playoff wins.

I've heard the argument elsewhere that Manning could simply restructure. Do you know what bonus amounts to? a no trade clause. if they try to trade him to Cleveland, he can just be like, nahhh, pay me or cut me.
I was wrong about some of those other things so I apologize for being misinformed, I appreciate you guys not getting dickball about it though.
I still think Peyton never plays another down of football, although, with all the piles of money Indy has thrown at him, I could realistically see him be a perennial "doubtful" while he tries to help Luck out.Comment

There's talent on that unit, but that defense is built to play with a lead.

what happened in 1973, with a nearly completely different league (particularly when it comes to the salary cap/free agency), has absolutely no relevence whatsoever to what might happened in 2011 other than "hey, it could happen." It might win you a game of trivial pursuit though.

These same Colts traded Marshall Faulk in the prime of his career, let Marvin Harrison fade into the ether due to some things that could put the team into a bad light, let Bob Sanders go due to injury issues and hired a muppet to be the head coach. What makes you think they wouldn't let Peyton Manning go too?Comment
