Or we could talk about how the Colts had a chance to draft Andrew Luck 10 years ago but stuck with Manning who ended up retiring midway through the next season because of a blindside hit.

None of this matters until it's more clear how healthy he's going to be going forward.

If Indy believes Manning will be healthy it'd be dumb to get rid of him, especially for nothing. If it comes down to a healthy (or close to healthy) Manning or Luck I'd roll with Manning easily.

uh or we can talk about how Peyton Manning was the greatest QB to ever play the game and Luck turned out to be an average QB/bust.

The thing that bugs me about all this hype around Luck is the fact that these 'experts' are acting like Luck will be able to even sniff Peyton's jock. Luck has played 0 downs in the NFL. Sure he 'looks' NFL ready but he is unproven. Manning is the greatest QB to ever play the game. He has another 5 years once he comes back. Why on earth would you get rid of the greatest quarterback ever on essentially a gamble.

I guarantee in the next 5 years the Colts will be able to find a quarterback in the draft that can succeed Manning. Why go all-in on Luck now?

It honestly boggles my mind that they would even consider it.

The only logical way I think they could think about getting rid of Manning is if his neck really isn't healing. If it is healed then there is no way in hell I draft Luck next year. Not even to sit on my bench behind manning IMO.

I'm laughing even having to type this because there is discussion to get rid of PEYTON MANNING

At some point, you have to start thinking about the 10 years for your franchise instead of the next 1 or 2 so I can see why the Colts might want to trade him.

Otherwise, they aren't going to get another shot at a top QB prospect until Manning retires.
Let's not forget though, Luck is not proven at this level. I know he's the hot-hand right now, but this has happened before.

If the Colts drop Manning, and Luck busts, this team is in the whole for the next 10 years.

To me, it doesn't make any sense to get rid of a guy that's gotten you 10-wins consistently every year, and without him they haven't won a game. I really don't even see how it's debatable. Manning at 50% helps this team tremendously, even if it is for three years.

you learn a lot about who's serious about the team and who's not fan wise..

granted, we'll know more in say, 3-4 years given the success/failure possibilities in the future. however I can legitimately say it feels like 97-98 again but worse. sometimes I wonder whether Peyton was the reason the team turned around in 99 or if it was Edgerrin, I tend to go with James simply because the team was hurting bad in 01 when his knee went out on him. we need a guy like that again to take some pressure off of Manning.

Jim Irsay always picks me up with his encouraging tweets though!

in 10 years we went from this

The Colts weren't an elite team before Peyton Manning got injured; they were a middling team propped up by the greatest quarterback in league history. The Old Colts are dead, and neither Andrew Luck nor Peyton Manning can bring them back.

If Andrew Luck is within reach I may take my chance with him. Colts aren't anywhere near a SB threat. You'd have to spend that no.1 pick and pray itd be an immediate elite player to help manning on either side of the ball. Then pray hed stay healthy. Then pray his body will still hold up long enough for you to groom a replacement.
Thats alot of things that would have to go right. Considering the success guys like Tebow,Newton are having and dont have anywhere near the polish Luck has Id say go with him and get what you can from Manning if he wants out.

I love Manning but hey Montana looked good in Chiefs red maybe Manning will bring some magic to another team and further solidify his rep.

p.s E.James was a beast before his injury. Even his attitude in the run game changed after that.
Best reason to have a license.

Ive said this before, even if Manning played this year, the Colts werent gonna be as good as they had been.

Two best options for Manning in my opinion would be the

49ers - they are ready to win now, play in a very week division. They can bring in Wane with Manning or go for Wallace or VJax to give him a WR. They have the D, the line, the running game and the TE.

Redskins - not saying this because Im a skins fan. But im not a big fan of throwing away your future on an upproven guy like RGIII (although he may turn out to be great) Skins can bring in Manning, Wayne, Saturday (for two or three years). Improve your team with the draft. Draft a stud lineman, WR or whoever. Manning will put asses in the seats, give the Skins some hope in a fucked up NFC East. ALthough Shanny and his kid will probably fuck it all up with him

If the 49ers get Peyton Manning, its is game over.

LOL @ Jim Harbaugh, the guy Peyton Manning basically put into the retirement home, now being Peyton Manning's coach.

                                Kind of awesome.
