i dont see how osu got off that light. they vacated there 2010 season, gave back all their bowl money from that year, are facing scholarship penalties(theyll get around that) and facing a 1 year ban=no bowl money for that year. all over a couple players getting money and free tattoos. all i know is the U is gonna get fucked for there cocaine and sex parties that they provided to players for years
Jim Tressel's reign of ignorance arguably should have resulted in the death penalty from the NCAA. Knowingly covering-up repeated violations....isn't that the whole point of having the death penalty? Getting caught, punished, and still committing the same offenses year after year...isn't that death penalty worthy?

Not to the Ohio State semantics police, who would argue that the NCAA never officially slapped them with the "lack of institutional control" charge. They just, you know, failed to control their institution.
I'm confused about the outrage from USC fans. You had a player basically getting paid hundreds of thousands of dollars, either through gifts or otherwise, the coach and the AD tried to deny it/cover it up and Bush lied to the investigators about it. For bettr for worse at tOSU players didn't take nearly as much money, were pretty cooperative with the NCAA etc. Both head coaches and AD's are sleeze balls but I can see where the NCAA drew the line.

Its kind of like a circular problem. When Reggie Germany has a 0.0 GPA after 4 years, Andy Katzenmoyer has taken 17 credits worth of bowling classes over the summer to remain eligible for the upcoming season, Maurice Clarett is allowed to take oral exams to pass his math and science courses, and the NCAA still doesn't do anything, then I guess you can't technically point to "prior transgressions" because the NCAA was too spineless back then to do anything.
The whole situation stinks. Its like Ohio State is getting off easy TWICE...since they weren't punished back when Tressel first started, they are allowed to escape the death penalty upon Tressel's departure.

I'm not even a USC fan and most of what you've typed is hearsay. The NCAA has actual proof of Tressel's cover-up, while no hard evidence exists regarding involvement on the part of Pete Carroll or any other member of his staff with regards to Bush.
Bush acted as an individual as far as the evidence shows. And yet, USC was slapped with a "lack of institutional control" charge. For what? One player taking shitloads of cash and gifts on his own volition?
Again, it doesn't add up.
School A gets a two-year postseason ban, a 30 scholarship reduction, and a national championship rescinded. School A had one player, who was the face of college football at the time, take a ton of money and gifts and none of it could be tied back to the staff or others inside the program.
School B gets a one-year postseason ban, a 9 scholarship reduction, and a Sugar Bowl win rescinded. School B had 5+ players, who weren't the face of college football, take a decent amount of money and gifts and the head coach knowingly brushed all concerns aside numerous times.
Again, I think it all boils down to the fact that the NCAA was far more embarrassed when Bush turned out to be a cheat because of how much they invested in his image.

I also think that part of it was USC was allowing a lot of celbs and tuff at practice. Wasn't really monitoring their players as they should have been and the NCAA felt lied to all along during the process by pretty much everyone at USC. Bush included.

school a also had oj mayo. 2 players accused of the same things in 2 different sports i guess=lack of institutional control

The first two are embarrassments. Katzenmoyer may have been technically 'eligible', but I think those two really sum up the John Cooper years pretty well. You know my feelings on Clarett.

How did Ohio State get off easy the first time? The investigation centered around Maurice Clarett getting extra benefits (Which he did) and Clarett repeatedly lying to NCAA investigators throughout.
