    Which Polian?

A team that has Peyton Manning under center at quarterback can run itself offensively. What the Colts need to do is hire a head coach who is a defensive guru, and has experience with both building a unit and turning one around immediately.

The person that comes to mind for this position is Gregg Williams. He's had top defenses with the Titans, Bills, Redskins and Saints, and has come into the last two stops and immediately turned a bottom rung defense into a top 10 unit in his first season.

He's had a couple years under both Joe Gibbs and Sean Payton, who are renowned offensive play callers. That should have helped him get a feel for the offensive game more, but in the end, he just needs to hire someone that Manning can get a long with and just be along for the ride.

          Cut Manning?

Even Matt Millen would find that a laughably bad decision. If you decided that Luck was the way to go and announced that Manning was on the trading block, you could film an NFL edition of the Amazing Race as 27 Franchise GM's and Owners would scramble the private jets to reach Indy first.

Should've been done in 2008 when Dungy retired.

I would have thought Caldwell would take the fall for the Colts org this year. Firing Polian definitely sends a message to the entire staff that nobody is safe. This also allows the new GM to decide whether or not Caldwell stays if Polian's replacement is hired soon.

Cutting Manning is not a bad decision if he refuses to renegotiate the $27M roster bonus he is due in a couple of months. If he is willing to help the team out on that, then you have to keep him and can still draft Luck to hopefully let him learn from Manning a couple of seasons before taking the reigns.

JMV and Chris Mortenson were talking today and it was said that Irsay could have told Caldwell that he was being let go but asked if he could stay another week to do the after season reports for the new coaching staff.

Am I out of touch with hows things work or is something new happening? Since when did the head coach decide on the GM? I thought it was the other way around.

No way does Manning get cut. Even if he re-negotiates his contract, he will get more money that way than through free agency again. I can't imagine a team giving Manning more than three or four years. He still has value in a trade as well, so there is no way that the Colts don't get something for Manning if they want to move away from him.

Caldwell is still the HC for now and might keep his job. Telesco (currently with the Colts) might end up as GM.

I'll be pissed if either happens. Colts need to bring in people from the outside. Irsay's loyalty and wanting to promote from within is the exact same thing that got Indy into trouble before with guys like Caldwell, Polian jr, etc.

I'd wager Telesco will stay, but not get the GM job. Irsay talked a ton about a new era, so I would think that means most will be gone. I think Caldwell still has a lot of respect from the players and Irsay and could stay though, although it is a very slim chance.
