This. After the debacles that were 03 and 04, they decided to add this 5th game, which wasn't really the solution people were asking for. When people were asking for a "plus 1" in those days, we wanted a semi-final and a final between the top 4 teams. This would be perfect 99% of the time IMO. Instead, their idea of a "plus 1" was literally to just add an extra game of the same significance. Adding the extra BCS game actually backfired, IMO, because it has watered down the other bowls significantly.

Another major problem with the system we have now is that when the schools agreed to add a 12th game (purely for money of course, but hey let's all say that a playoff would create too many games for student athlete's to endure) they decreased the likelihood that two teams would be able to go undefeated, creating the types of clusterfucks we have now or in '07.

In short, this system has never not sucked balls.

I dunno why this is even a debate. If Alabama wins, the BCS computers will self-destruct.

After what happened today now I hope Alabama wins by a a field goal. It will cause all kinds of controversy.

LSU has probably already won the AP poll, let's face it. First team to finish #1 in every computer and human poll in the BCS era. Arguably the best regular season of all time. Beat the teams ranked #2, 5, 6, and 15 in the final poll.

Give us the trophy now, faggots.

One side note – if you’re wondering why nearly every voice at ESPN is united in proposing the single argument that there IS no argument on who should be playing LSU… If you’re wondering how a network that usually encourages us to debate every possible nuance of CFB has now for two weeks been unified in selling us a single message, I remind you of this little ditty:

The Entertainment and Sports Programming Network recently paid $2.25 billion, that’s with a B, for broadcasting rights to the SEC for 15 years…AND ESPN now owns the broadcasting rights for our sports’ BCS Championship game as well.

Yes, ESPN has its fingers in nearly every conference, but nothing to the scale it has invested with the SEC. That’s a lot of motivation to support the LSU/Bama brands…in a neck-and-neck situation, especially. Somebody bang a gavel and keep it in the family.

They choose an opinion they want people to have and they push it like there's no tomorrow. This is why I don't get into politics. I have to worry every time I turn on the TV about who approved that message. I shouldn't have to worry about who ESPN is in bed with before I watch an hour of what they now pass off as "sports" coverage, or sport-related storyline/controversy coverage. Which pisses me off, because ESPN would usually be all over a united masses against the BCS, because buying into universal outrage sells. But instead, it's just another SEC overlords report featuring college football....

Were those all road games or neutral site games? Because LSU only played one significant game at home all year.

Anyway yeah I don't seek to compare the resumes of the 88 Notre Dame team vs. the 11 LSU team right now, at least let's wait until we finish the jerb but this LSU team is surely the best regular season performer of the BCS era.

                          Miami(#1): Home
                          Michigan(#9 or #4)): Home
                          WV(#3): Fiesta Bowl
                          USC(#2): Road

LOL at Notre Dame that year.

They essentially ended up beating the top 4 teams in the country that season.

Admittingly the rest of the schedule wasn't real strong. Rice, MSU, Navy, Pitt, Penn St had a down season, etc but I think most of that is forgiven by the rest of the schedule.
