Could LSU lose to Alabama in the National Championship and still be #1?

I think it would just for the fact that the BCS was created so there woul dbe no more split titles. That there woul dbe more definition in who the champion is. A split title would blow the biggest part of that mission statement up. A split title based on a poll the BCS used to use..and the other major poll in the land would reflect really poorly on how well the BCS was doing in determining who the best team in the land is.

This. After the debacles that were 03 and 04, they decided to add this 5th game, which wasn't really the solution people were asking for. When people were asking for a "plus 1" in those days, we wanted a semi-final and a final between the top 4 teams. This would be perfect 99% of the time IMO. Instead, their idea of a "plus 1" was literally to just add an extra game of the same significance. Adding the extra BCS game actually backfired, IMO, because it has watered down the other bowls significantly.

Another major problem with the system we have now is that when the schools agreed to add a 12th game (purely for money of course, but hey let's all say that a playoff would create too many games for student athlete's to endure) they decreased the likelihood that two teams would be able to go undefeated, creating the types of clusterfucks we have now or in '07.

In short, this system has never not sucked balls.

ESPN owns a ton of markets/channels and keeps saying that this game has to happen, they are shamelessly promoting it left and right...but i say, let it happen..something like this should push the idea of a playoff because who would stand for the BCS/NCAA saying 2 teams deserve a national championship from the same conference without proving themselves against other conferences? this is pathetic and another version of a fix...on another note, the all powerful NCAA said UCLA could sign a bowl waiver and be eligible for a bowl with a losing record LOL...thats like some dumb house rule while playing Monopoly against some cheater..just pathetic...that aside, I dont want bowls completely gone, having college football almost all December helps make the holidays for a football fan

Yeah, that sounds about right. You could tell leading up to this that they were full of shit, and it came out in spades today. Analysts explaining why "the match-up the people want to see" isn't the best match-up is just funny. ESPN is a joke. They choose an opinion they want people to have and they push it like there's no tomorrow. This is why I don't get into politics. I have to worry every time I turn on the TV about who approved that message. I shouldn't have to worry about who ESPN is in bed with before I watch an hour of what they now pass off as "sports" coverage, or sport-related storyline/controversy coverage. Which pisses me off, because ESPN would usually be all over a united masses against the BCS, because buying into universal outrage sells. But instead, it's just another SEC overlords report featuring college football....

Admittingly the rest of the schedule wasn't real strong. Rice, MSU, Navy, Pitt, Penn St had a down season, etc but I think most of that is forgiven by the rest of the schedule.
