I think we can all agree that Paterno could have done more to address the Sandusky scandal. However, not one of us knows all of the details, nor how we would react in a similar situation so it's probably best not to pass judgement.

Surprised you could manage to use the term "shutting out" in that sentence, after what happened a couple of weeks ago.

You can take the high road, but the man himself said he wished he'd done things differently. He never spoke about specifics but it's a shame no one helped all of the alleged victims of Sandusky. Not one person at PSU, not one.

No, I know exactly how I would react in a similar situation. Especially if my calling card in life was being the most principled man in college football and I made millions of dollars off of portraying that image to the nation.

If someone is touching children, you call the fucking cops. Some things are absolute.

I probably wouldn't endorse him to run a new football program at a satellite campus.

No, you don't know because you don't know all of the things that happened behind the scenes that haven't been exposed in the media. It's easy to sit behind a computer and throw stones, but until you are put in the exact same situation and have all of the same information, you can't know for sure how you'd react.

Okay you are right, I wouldn't know because I've never been the most powerful man in an entire state before, powerful enough where I could stop the raping of children with one phone call.

However I can sit here and say I know exactly what Joe Paterno should have done, being that he was JOE FUCKING PATERNO aka the most morally upstanding moralizer the college game had ever seen! (Or so he said...)

It would of helped if Paterno was given an account was what actually happened. Not that I'm saying he would have done more, I have no way of knowing that, but let's not let facts get in the way of a cool story, bro...

I do believe we are getting to the core of fuels a lot of the hate. I'm just glad you came out and said it. Feel better?

Which time? The time a janitor saw Sandusky getting a beejer from a kid in his office? Or the time when Sandusky admitted to a parent that he hugged her son in the shower, and Penn State formally issued him a warning and made him promise not to touch little boys in the shower again ...

Oh wait you are talking about the third time Sandusky was caught red handed and word got to Penn State brass.

I agree, that time Paterno needed more information for sure. You can never be too sure with these things. Need that fourth or fifth victim to really know, ya know?

This might be the most naive...or actually...the dumbest fucking thing I've ever seen posted here.

I have no hate for Paterno. I hate that he is being defended though, or that we are supposed to be naive and think he didn't know enough.

"I've never heard of a man and rape before."

He seriously offered that as his excuse for doing so little. You are defending that?

Ok. So he couldn't have stopped children from being raped with one phone call? Pretty fucking sure he could have.

"Hey, this is Joe Paterno. Yeah I have this guy on my staff raping children and we've warned him to stop twice. Yeah you need to lock this guy up or more children can get hurt. Okay great, thanks."

That is all it would have taken.

"Integrity is measured not by what is done in the light, but in the dark." Publicly, he may have been a great person, but he had no integrity at all when it came time to actually use it. His values and morals would have gotten in the way of protecting his brand, so he chose to ignore them. So yeah.
I didnt mean it in the sense that its undeserving, its just unfortunate that it happened and ruined his legacy. I have no sympathy for Joe Pa.
