Some keep saying "well if the bounties didnt do anything, why did they exist"? Ill tell you why, its the same reason why many athletes have retarded & ridiculous superstitions & rituals. These players believe that having bounties might give them a slight edge, and thats why they do them. They are wrong & stupid for believing it gives them an edge, but just like their superstitions, they do it anyway without regard to the logic it lacks. If you believe the bounties caused them to play different, you might as well believe their superstitions cause them to play better too. Both views are equally stupid & not grounded in any logic.
And if Goodell wouldn't suspend a girl for carrying a lucky rabbit's foot, then how could he suspend anyone in the Saints organization? 'Tis an outrage.Comment

So, the Saints having a bounty system designed to maim/injure opposing players is the same as a little girl carrying around a lucky rabbit's foot? Wow, I never thought of it like that. Makes sense.

But a little side money incentive for playing physical is just another tool in the toolbox. If the little side money as an incentive for getting players to play more physical isn't their, the team, coaches would find another tool to use. As much as bounties are wrong and those caught should get penalized, I just don't see them changing the game all that much. The hits that injure will still happen, until rules are changed, and coaches, teams, will find other tools to incite the most physical play they can get out of their team.
The commish should come down on the Saints like he did. But a lot of this is a PR move.
Warner will say this is just stating the obvious, and it really is, but if you are really concerned about players safety, then push for better equipment and CHANGE THE FUCKING ON FIELD RULES to eliminate as many of the hits that bring a higher % of injury.
Senser, come back and say anything you want. Feelings won't be hurt. You're still one of my favs and have been ever since MM. I heart U DUDE.Comment

Goodell suspending the Saints was just a PR move. He knew about their bounty program years ago, and if they had stopped back then he wouldnt have punished them at all. Compare that to spygate. Goodell never gave a warning to the Pats to stop videotaping, he brought the hammer down on them as soon as he found out.Comment

Goodell suspending the Saints was because they violated the rules and tried to cover it all up.
The NFL only investigated allegations against the Saints in 2010 after the initial charges from the unnamed player were received. Nothing much came of it. Then in 2011, the NFL received evidence it found credible that was "irrefutable."
He immediately dropped the hammer on New England because all it took to investigate was to confiscate the tapes and watch for themselves.

I didnt say the bounty WAS a superstition, because there isnt the element of luck. But its the same principle. You do something lacking in logic because you believe it gives you a slight edge. I think superstition isnt the best comparison, a better comparison is to pre-game rituals.

Packers president Bob Harlan said the same Patriots employee caught red-handed against the Jets on Sunday was also caught taping the Packers' signals when the Patriots visited Green Bay last year, and that the NFL subsequently told the Patriots to knock it off.

They also say all video for coaching purposes must be shot from locations "enclosed on all sides with a roof overhead."
That was re-emphasized in a memo sent Sept. 6 to NFL head coaches and general managers. In it, Ray Anderson, the league's executive vice president of football operations, wrote:"Videotaping of any type, including but not limited to taping of an opponent's offensive or defensive signals, is prohibited on the sidelines, in the coaches' booth, in the locker room or at any other locations accessible to club staff members during the game."Comment

This is a terrible comparison. If you get into a pile in football, you aren't going to twist someone's ankle or break their finger because you are wearing special socks or Ray Lewis did a rousing chant. On the other hand, a bounty is gives you the conscious thought to hurt someone for a reward.
The bounty was reward for big hits that result in injury....not twisting someone's ankle in a pile.Comment

Sorry, I'm not a pro at analogies like you.Comment

You are just as likely to hit someone in the head because of a pre-game speech as a bounty.Comment

Again, people will do anything for money, even if they are making 6+ figures. There is a reason why CEOs making millions are trying to make that extra few hundred thousand by any means. Bernie Madoff stole hundreds of millions, but was still trying to bilk people for a few thousand bucks. Greed >>> anything.Comment

2) That guy knows to keep his hits within the rules, because a 15 yard penalty could cost him his career. He's playing for his NFL career, not a measly 10k bounty.Comment
-
Also, do you mean to tell me that the bounty system was designed to reward injuries, not 15-yard penalties taken? I didn't think that was possible, either.
Maybe its just me being jaded at this point, but your postings get dumber and dumber to me. The "superstition" analogy takes the cake. I have a superstition...whenever I get up in the morning, I open my front door and blindly fire a shot from my gun. One day, I hit my neighbor and almost killed him. The cops came, and I said "Whats the big deal? Its just a superstition".Comment

Not only is this attempted joke completely unfunny, it doesnt even correctly address what i said. I can see why you had an early exit in the March Madness tournament. Just admit that you're past your posting prime and on your way to retirement.Comment

in any case..most long term fans are laughing..this isnt that serious..we dont care..sure, no one wants blatant violence and injury..but football is based on aggression for half the players on the field at any given time,so what else is new ?
linemen may start droppping 60 pounds because they arent needed to be that tough anymore...?Comment
