So we model a system that selects 68 teams from a tournament with little doubt that you certainly capture at least the top 20 best teams to select 4 teams, makes very little sense either. At least with polling the simple solution exists to make polling public.

Maybe I'm giving this site too much credit but I'm pretty sure you could get 10 guys from VSD together and pick the top 4 teams and have it be pretty well agreed upon. I'm not really worried about this committee doing a competent job.

Not true. VSN would be split on whether Alabama should make the final 4, with half saying "they didnt even win their conference or division!"

That's a different question entirely. It's pretty widely accepted that Alabama was one of the best four teams in the country. However, whether they earned a spot in a playoff despite not winning their division is another problem.
