Have you read any of the advanced point probability stuff that's floating around out there? Studies suggest that over the long run, teams would score more points if they bypass punting, especially once they cross the 50. Problem is everybody is afraid to try it.

It took 20-30 years to change old school baseball mentalities, I would think that it will probably take 100 years to change old school football mindsets.

Don't know...usually football coaches will glom on to whatever works. I figure if Long is successful, then other coaches will follow suit. My guess is that Long will be successful for a couple games, then he'll fail miserably in the third game, and never go back to it.

Rocky Long and I are innovators.

VSN has a bunch of scaredy cat coaches.

Best reason to have a license.

I agree with Senser here. We've seen time and time again that if something works quickly in football, people will go to it. Not sure why, because I'd ASSUME they would take forever to change their ways. As Senser mentioned though if it doesn't work a few times they aren't going to keep doing it (frankly they don't have that leverage) so there isn't as progressive long-term change.

Its a long learning curve to get something like this right. Punting is there for a reason. In the long run maybe you score more points but youre guaranteed to give the opposing team more and easier opportunities to score points as well.
You can cover up offensive and even defensive deficiencies by simply playing the field position game. If you go for it on every 4th past the 50 you can very well put yourself out of a game by half time if your defense and offense arent in a rhythm.
