I know you listen to Colin Cowherd, so you probably already know this, but during the summer of Lebron, his show and all of the shows on ESPN TV & radio were wall to wall Lebron. Somebody called up and complained, so in typical Cowherd fashion he ran the guy down and basically said, and im paraphrasing in my best Colin Cowherd:

"Listen buddy, we have very smart people who work here, and we know what hooks listeners & viewers. We get company directives handed to us every morning detailing what to talk about based on what research tells. We aren't going to sit here and break down games, Lebron is THE story, we are going to talk about Lebron. When Favre is THE story we are going to talk about Favre. Normal people don't listen all day like you do in your moms basement, most of our listeners are smart people, professionals, who listen for ten minutes in the car, blah blah blah typical troll Cowherd stuff"

Jets, apparently, are THE story right now. And Cowherd has no professional credibility. He's a corporate chump who gets handed his directive every morning, and finds his troll angle. Cowherd is a fun listen sometimes, but it's obvious he isn't in this to be a great sportstalk host, he's in this to become the biggest star he can possibly be. Shit, he essentially admits that. Cowherd talks about Lebron, Kobe, CFB, NFL, Tiger, Tebow 90% of the time. He admits on air, that the only baseball team he will watch/follow is the Yankees. Sound familiar?

I think that's the biggest part to me, they get no credibility in my mind, none. Even if they have reports or rumors, I don't want to listen because they've blown all their credibility with the way they cover sports as a whole. It's akin to me being a top tier writer on Bleacher Report, in the end it won't matter because I'm associated with B/R. It's not a surprise that some of the smarter minds they've had there have moved on to other opportunities even if they were "downgrades" in the sense of standing (Matt Winer, Brian Kenny, Max Kellerman come to mind)

From what I recall, the first time they REALLY showed their ass was during the Ben Roethlisberger issue when they basically chose to insert head in sand because he hadn't been committed of anything at the time, which never stopped them before. Eventually they gathered everything up real quick and put out stories and tried to play catch up but they were weeks behind everyone else.

The sad part isn't the outrage, or even that ESPN sold their journalistic integrity to the devil. It's that so many people mindlessly parrot the "coverage" and allow this to continue. They hear Favre or LeBron 1,000 times a day and instead of shaking their head, they ask their co-workers "hey, you hear about Favre?" Lemmings.

However, I leave the house before 7am, so that won't do me any good. Now the big story is Sanchez telling reporters that "this is my huddle and if you don't like it get out" LOL, let's see what you do when you have your actual teammates in the huddle. Sanchez trying to force this leadership thing and that isn't a natural position for him.

what the hell does credibility have to do with anything ? Sports is an entertainment business. You promote what entertains the masses.

why the circular argument anyway ? what the hell do you want? Knowing everything about football strategy and the like really isnt important unless you are on the team/player/coach.

Cowherd is partially right no matter how much he is bullshiting you...the average morning driver is smart..but they just want the superficial stuff that buzzes in the ear.

no one wants the whole truth about everything..that would be to much to handle on the brain...no one is really going to break it down for you because that would mean admitting who really sucks and that kills fan interest and hope..we get too much info as it is thanks to the internet...I really never needed to know the Jets coach has a foot fetish....the only thing that matters is "did my team win?" no one gives a damn that the defense will suck because they have the wrong personel for a 3-4 defense...some of us might find that interesting, but in the end, who cares if you even know that/ it really means nothing in your life..Sports is entertainment and something else someone else gets paid to do...Hating Cowherd is a waste of time..he knows its mindless shit but its a job he gets paid to do....

So... haven't seen the direct headline in a few minutes... so this isn't word for word... but this... this is gold, it made me laugh...

"MLB Umpire Jim Joyce gives Arizona Diamondbacks employee CPR and saves her life in stadium stadium. Jim Joyce blew a call on first base in a potential 2010 perfect game."

I know that's not the exact quote... but does anybody really give a shit that he blew a call at this point? Commend the guy for helping to save somebody's life, don't shit on him immediately after. It's like you should applaud him for this, but just a reminder, he fucked up so maybe he's just making up for his screw up, he might be even now, a life for a game is fair trade.

They do shit like that all the time. Its like a kid who has to write a report on something for school, so he just jots down every fact he can find in random order. ESPN is terrible/great at this, making these random "asides" for no reason whatsoever, and they usually end up contradicting the original story like in the Jim Joyce story.

"Ryan Dempster pitched 8 innings and allowed only 1 run, but was still tagged with the loss. Dempster is 4-5 this year with a 1.83 ERA. His wife filed for divorce yesterday..."

"John Calipari was named NCAA Coach of the Year. He coached Kentucky to the national title. Its the third different team Calipari has coached to the title game. He was suspected for recruiting violations involving Derrick Rose in 2009..."

Yawn. I blame it on the interns they have writing their Sportscenter scripts who are trying too hard to sound smart.

Well some of us (not ram29jackson) enjoy higher level sports discussion as opposed to the drooling mouth breathing you clearly prefer. I hope you listen to Mike and Mike, it's totally up your alley. One guy is metrosexual and the other is a moronic ex-player, it's a GREAT dynamic, brah.

Not a fan of the show (I used to like it a lot better 10 years ago when it was about sports, instead of the Mike/Mike "dynamic" and stupid Joaquin segments), but I think you are being too harsh on Mike Golic. Of all the corporate shills on ESPN, Golic is the only one with any common sense. I think most of what he says is right, or at the very least based on logic. Golic is probably my favorite ESPN "personality".
