Now hear me out for a minute because I could be totally wrong.

But aren't all of these teams realigning to bail themselves out of business plans that are not profitable? And by that I mean, all these athletic departments are losing money every year in their previous conferences, so they just up and leave instead of correcting a flawed business model? I was watching 60 minutes last night and the AD of Michigan said only 22 teams of a possible 125 were cash flow even, or positive.

Instead of changing conferences for the quick and easy buck, why don't more teams try to correct their mistakes? They're ruining traditions, rivalries, and alienating fan bases. I guess I may just be naive, but there's no reason for Rutgers and Maryland to move to the Big 10. None.

The UMD vs Duke/UNC rivalries died when they added Syracuse/Pitt. They were only gonna play once a year. They can do that over the ACC/Big Ten challenge.

Football wise ACC/Big10 ain't a big difference in competition. Just gives UMD better recruiting areas now with West PA and Ohio instead of North Carolina.

Basketball wise they will be Top 7 every year in the conference. I'm looking forward to better competition in these games and Turgeron pace on court can exploit slow Big Ten. Turgeron is turning the team around and he gets Texas kids so recruiting wont be affected.

That Under Armour money going to help with recruiting and Big10 revenue is a huge get. This was financial over anything else.

Also Rutgers probably paying off some of Marylands bill.

Uhhh how is Maryland going to pay the $50 million? And that's only the first question.

What about every other NCAA sport Maryland has. I know all we here at VSN think about are football and basketball but what about other NCAA sports? Lacrosse has been marylands nest NCAA team the past 5 years. Does the B10 even have lacrosse? One of the biggest sports in the B10 is hockey. I don't even think Maryland has an NCAA hockey team.

In fact, outside of money which is gonna take a decade to even see profit anyways, what does Maryland have in common with ANY Big 10 team? Absolutely nothing. None of their sports match up with ours. Even their style of basketball is completely different. This isn't going to improve recruiting at all UMD has never recruited out of the carolinas and their not just gonna miraculously start getting top recruits out of the North Midwest either. UMD will do what it always does and bring in local talent from VA and ignore anyone coming out of Baltimore. The only sport recruiting out of Texas is basketball and its not like their raking in top tier talent from the area.

As far as Maryland Basketball working the Big10 I have a feeling its going to be the other way around. UMD needs more shooters if they're gonna compete. They might be fast but the Big10 is big as fuck especially compared to Maryland. Our post is gonna get dominated and our guards aren't gonna be able to score on the drive anymore.

As far as rivalries go, you can throw any that UMD has picked up in its almost SIXTY year tenure in the ACC out the window. They may play ACC teams once in basketball but it no longer will have the same significance or atmosphere.

I'm just dumb founded that mother fuckers think they have the right to destroy 60 years of tradition because another conference is offering slightly more money per year, and yes in the grand scheme of things it is slightly. It may sounds terrible but I honestly hope every UMD sport falls flat on its face and they realize how fucking stupid of a decision this shit was.

They won't pay entire 50 million

ECAC for lacrosse. Club Hockey will go D1.

Anderson has no ties to ACC so he doesn't care.

Ok let's say they only pay $20 mill (which I bet they end up paying way more than that but this is what the original exit fee was). They're still not gonna be able to pay that off for 3 years and that's if they apply 100% of the new revenue they make towards this fee. With the amount of debt they have I doubt they would be able to pay this off in 5 years. Besides you don't think the ACC is gonna increase in revenue after adding Syracuse, Pitt and ND?

Who the fuck cares if our AD has ties to the ACC or the Big10 or any other conference. University of Maryland was a fucking founding member of the ACC. That used to mean something. Fuck our AD. I hope the mfer loses his job for this. He should go back to fucking Iowa if he loves the B10 that much. Fuck him.

I'm done with being upset about these moves. College sports is now about television revenue and football and nothing more. Eventually all of the top schools will be in 4 conferences anyways. Once Pitt and Syracuse joined it was no longer the ACC basketball that I grew up with. I don't want to hear anymore talk about tradition, rivalries and the "student" athletes.

This sucks and is literally the opposite of what anybody wants. But, since this is the NCAA we are talking about, that means it has to happen.

The fact that every piece of media on this topic lists this as a victory for the Big10 conference instead of a victory for UMD tells me everything I need to know about this move.

Fun fact for the day, University of Maryland is now the Big10s most recent National Champion basketball team.

Edit: the only part of this move I like is the fact that Maryland will now be on the Big10 Network and I can finally watch their games in HD

That's sad lol, but at least some of their teams have actually been relevant over the last 10 years in CBB.

The Big10 commish just called UMD a flagship program for the conference

Guess he stopped watching ACC sports when he left Chapel Hill

There are rumors circulating VT is in talks with the SEC about moving. If VT is leaving for the SEC you better believe FSU will follow if not partner along

SEC wants VA/DC and the north carolina markets... adding FSU does nothing for them, plus UF does not want them in the SEC... most likely it will be VT and NCSU to the SEC, with clemson and FSU to the b12... after that, its a crapshoot...
