BTW, the above is not a comment intended to say that I think ND will beat the SEC winner.
Notre Dame is not beating Alabama. Notice I didn't say UGA there. I just don't see us winning. It is too big of a game for Aaron Murray to show up.

But, if UGA does beat Alabama, I'll be in Miami on the 7th... We already have our timeshare set up just in case. Easier to cancel than set up.

It's a damn shame in my mind that Alabama never played Florida, and the Gators are stuck at 11-1, with arguably the best resume in the conference, with no say in their own fate. That is the unfortunate side effect of expanded conferences though, and it will only continue.

Alabama doesn't play Florida or Georgia next season in the regular season, either. LSU plays them both, of course, while Bama gets the Tennessee/Kentucky gauntlet out of the East.

Sounds like Alabama 2011, and they ended up winning the national title. Same thing could have happened this year had USC beaten Notre Dame, which would have been ridiculous. Florida could have played Georgia in the national title game and won the title, despite not winning their conference division and losing to Georgia earlier in the year.

It's ok...it will all be resolved come playoff time in a few years..except in the bracket that ESPN made up last night where they put Bama, Florida, and Georgia all in it together.

            Ooops!

@BFeldmanCBS: Notre Dame would be an underdog vs 5 SEC teams (Bama -9.5); UGA (-3); UF (-1.5); #LSU (-3); A&M (-3.5), per Bovada.

Plus point spreads mean jack shit in relation to the way they are usually thrown around. It's all to control betting.

Last night ESPN had ND has a 7pt dog to Bama.

They have the least explosive offense of all the teams in question. I think the prevailing thought is that ND would match up the best with the Gators for this reason. Florida would want to run it 50 times, which would obviously play towards the strength of Notre Dame.

Which is odd/funny because last night it was pretty much universally agreed that Alabama is the best match up for Notre Dame because of the same reason, especially with the injury to Kenny Bell. Though Cooper is the leading WR for the Tide. I personally think Florida is the worst matchup for Notre Dame, especially for their offense. Gun to my head I like the matchups with Bama's defense more than I do Florida, Georgia's, or LSU's.

I'd like ND's chances better against Bama than I would Florida.

The dirty secret here is that Alabama isn't very good, at least not compared to their '09 or '11 teams. They should have lost to LSU, but that's old news.

Which is why it shocks me that Bama would be such a huge favorite. Every analyst you hear talks trumps up how great Florida is and how great the resume is. How a team that runs the ball a lot plays right into ND's hands, how Bama has issues dealing with multiple personnel groupings and mobile QB's, yet they are the biggest favorite over ND of all the SEC teams. I'm not saying ND will beat Bama but it's really odd to see the line favorites match up with the talking points. It's like the "experts" and the oddsmakers are seeing the same thing. Pretty interesting.

ESPN will spend 15 minutes talking up other teams in the SEC and saying how Bama is the preferred matchup for ND then plaster up the point spreads with Bama as the biggest favorite.

                              This.

Easily the best resume out of all the one-loss teams in the country. 4 Wins against the BCS top 15, with 2 being on the road. Pretty impressive.

Also, Northern Illinois & Jordan Lynch can sneak into the Orange Bowl with a win + losses from Texas and UCLA.

I'm about to get my frat partying on in DeKalb, IL.
