You guys are so afraid of change. Get with the times. This could be a great idea.

While we do this, let's replace goalposts with just a pole in each endzone, with a round metal rim attached to the pole. The team can try and throw the football through the round metal rim for points. While we're at it, lets reduce the size of the football field and make all football fields indoor domes. Also, let's expand the playoffs even further and let almost all teams in. Finally we should rename the sport. We can call it

      BASKETBALL.

Where is Zoneblitz to defend this shit, and assure us that the league is not in any way diminishing its brand or diluting the product ...

Ive never wanted to do actual harm to a sports commissioner. But Goodell genuinely makes me want to bring a harpoon to the NFL draft and finish this debacle of a reign.
Best reason to have a license.

no 5-11 team will make the playoffs... bit of an overreaction with the Browns Chiefs reference too... I don't think it's an absolutely terrible idea if it's done right (which it prob won't be). the gap between a 6 seed and a 7th or 8th seed won't be big at all. There have been plenty of times where you know that a team is better than one that got into the playoffs, but had a tougher schedule/injuries and could make noise if they get in the playoffs.

With huge injuries happening each and every week that changes the looks of teams drastically, who in there right mind would want to add anymore games to a long enough season as it is. Each game is like a ticking time bomb for another concussion, torn MCL, torn ACL, etc...

Let me fill in for him...

He'd probably bring up how baseball & basketball are on every day and nobody complains, completely missing the point that part of the reason the NFL crushes these sports is because it has the advantage of less exposure.

To that point, Thursday Night Football got doubled up in the ratings by Big Bang Theory last week. No more NFL Network clearance excuses either, they are now on every major cable/sat provider.

But remember, people cant get enough and will watch any form of NFL football.

You can't see the effect of overexposure until it's already happening, and then it's too late to reverse because it's like an avalanche. Adding more playoff games would be a dangerous move. They all feel important now. You don't wan't to be the NBA, where early rounds are ignored by the casuals and nobody cares until the Conference Finals.

Yeah, lets allow 16 teams into the playoffs, move to an 18 game schedule, and eliminate all kickoffs! WOO!

We don't have the money to upgrade our comcast package to get NFLN so that argument isn't completely terrible. Still don't like the idea of 18 games or this though.

Just a stupid idea. What I like most about the NFL and MLB is that you have winning teams that make it into the playoffs (rarely will a .500 team or below make it into the playoffs in NFL, but I imagine most of you get my point.) I hate having subpar teams in the NBA and NHL playoffs, as more often than not the lower seeds don't progress very far and it just stretches everything out too long for the playoffs. Lets try and avoid that, but if there is more money to be made, you bet the NFL owners will do this.
