I think this is a fun story for June but I'd be shocked if Russ even made the 55 man, let alone was naming him Cutler's backup.Comment

Tyler Edwards and a couple of other guys will be at the workout also, so yeah it's a long shot he even makes it to camp as a "camp arm" let alone makes the roster.Comment

The guy who fell asleep in team meetings, the guy who sometimes wouldn't even show up to team meetings, who one time skipped a team meeting to go to Vegas, drinking that purple drank, after games telling the media certain things weren't his fault it was other peoples fault, the guy who fattened up to 315, a guy who completed 48% of his passes with 3 td's to 11 pics his last year as a starter.
What are the upsides of Jamarcus Russell? I can't find any. But hey, maybe the 3rd or 4th comeback attempt will be the charm. Oh btw he hasn't taken a snap since that disastrous 2009 season. I'm sure over 3+ years out of the NFL really helped with his ability.
Jamarcus Russell is a joke and so is any team that winds up signing him especially to their final 53.
Nonetheless - rock bottom is a wake up call for some athletes. Yes Russell ballooned to 315.. he lost 50 pounds and is showing signs of maturity. He's always had the raw talent to be a player in the NFL.. is it likely he comes full circle and gets an NFL roster spot? Probably not.. but still worth kicking the tires.Originally posted by ram29jacksonI already said months ago that Seattle wasn't winning any SBComment

Yes he's worked hard and lost weight, that has to do with motivation not maturity.
I don't really see how you can "know" he won't continue to do any or all of what I said above. How retarded do you have to be as an NFL quarterback to stand in front of the media and say - No its not my fault we lost, receivers didn't do this, oline didn't do that etc., with the most smug look on his face.

Hardly... this is like his 3rd comeback attempt so he must be REALLY mature by now.

Also WTF are you talking about his 3rd attempt? I recall a report saying he was considering it, but nothing came of that. Other than that instance I know of no other attempt

Did some digging on Rotoworld
From October:
In this week's Sports Illustrated, former Raiders QB JaMarcus Russell blamed ex-Oakland head coach Tom Cable, his teammates, and sleep apnea for his failure to develop into an NFL quarterback.
"I did the sleep test, and they said I had apnea," claims Russell. "Things weren’t going right, and it felt sometimes like everything fell back on me. ... I may have missed a throw, but I didn’t give up 42 points, I didn’t miss a block. ... I stuck my neck out for (Cable). Didn’t complain when he benched me as the starter. Didn’t complain when he called the same plays five damn times. Didn’t [badmouth] him to other coaches. When the [media] asks me, I say, ‘He’s a good coach, a good guy.’ Then I hear he says I was the worst thing ever happened to the Raiders, if it weren’t for him we’d be in the playoffs?" Russell's chances of resurfacing in the NFL just decreased. Not that he cares.
His home was foreclosed on, his fucking "life coach" cut ties with him. Russell is a joke. He really seems mature though.Comment
