Due to church and work commitments, the SNF game is the only Week 1 action I am seeing this week. From what I've seen so far, good thing I missed the Redskins game.

EJ had a pretty smooth game. 16/22 173 yds 1 TD 1 Rushing TD 1 INT. He is a game manager and let the defense do the dirty work forcing 3 big turnovers. Got off the a great start up 17-7 at half. But inevitability let Chicago come back and force OT. Don't like that they could only put up 6 points in a whole half plus OT.

Going to the game Sunday in Buffalo. Hopefully they can make it 2-0.

That's going to be a great game. Miami looked great today. Bills just have to keep running the ball and taking pressure of Manuel.

As for my other team, Philly, I was stunned by halftime, but still had a feeling they could turn it around. Frankly, I think it's a good wakeup call. Clearly the Eagles are not as good as they think they are - and have to treat every team they play with respect.

There isn't any need to tune into an NFL game until the fourth quarter is halfway finished.

You could make that argument for every pro sport.

It's quickly become that way with the rule changes on offense. Even five years ago, the Broncos run out the clock in the second and the Colts don't have a chance to come back. Now, you've got to keep your foot on the gas or risk the other team coming back, and the rules restricting defensive players make it easier for teams to catch fire and come back on offense.

I'm still watching, but I am seeing these changes and wondering just when this stops becoming football as we know it. I think it will be sooner than most expect.

I truly love football, but all the rules favour/favor offence and it's turning the game into Tecmo Bowl. I absolutely get the move towards no head shots ... makes sense. But with receivers pretty much free after 5 yards, some QB is going to pass for 6,000 yards in one season really soon - maybe this season.

The flags were atrocious today during the Dallas/niner game.

Just some horrible calls for defensive holding where corners made great plays. I saw this in other games as well. They are just making up penalties sometimes now.

Lots of defensive holding penalties were called Week 1 in the pre-season, I believe I posted a thread about it. In the past, these went away Week 1 of the regular season, but that's not the case here. The NFL clearly wants more offense now. As dave and I were talking on a (somewhat) unrelated note above, it might get to a 6,000 yard passer sooner rather than later.

Didn't I tell you it wasnt some random preseason occurence ?
That piece during the game with whatshisname the former ref was very telling. He seemed just as grossed out by it as every one.

                              NFL Week 2 Discussion

Week 2 kicks off tomorrow night with the Steelers and Ravens renewing their rivalry on Thursday Night Football. Saints @ Browns, Chiefs @ Broncos and Bears @ 49ers could also be fun to watch.

I was knocked out of my survivor league in week 1 because I picked KC over Tenn.

Last year I made it to the final 7.

A lot of tough (shitty) match ups to call this week as well. I will be going to the 49ers first game at Levi's Stadium so that should be fun, other than that nothing really excites me this week but I'm looking forward to getting a better idea of the pretenders and contenders.
