Earlier up here I said the aftermath of the Ray Rice uproar would be extremism the other way. Namely women trying to use the public's torches & pitchforks mentality against domestic violence as a means of blackmailing players with the mere accusation of impropriety. Well, look what is happening in Florida. It appears a student took a sexual encounter as an opportunity to accuse QB Treon Harris of an assault. He gets suspended (not just from the team, but the campus) just because of the complaint & investigation. As soon as Harris's lawyer reveals the accuser had sent texts to Harris & another person (messages termed as "aggressive") before the alleged incident, she suddenly withdraws the complaint. These texts were sent while Harris was still in Tennessee after the game.
Harris was about to be named starter for the Gators, but had to miss practice & class just because one person made a claim. So now he has to sit this weekend.
The public can allow themselves to be manipulated by a media manufacturing a firestorm and lose their sense of fairness & justice. And decision makers become impotent followers of the crowd infringing on basic rights of the individual. Right does not fluctuate w/the changing tide. Once you take away the right of the individual, you take away the right of society, your own. We need to get rid of this mob thinking, this reactionary approach to justice. Stop letting the phony outrage of the press take away your ability to think & reason. Extremism in any direction gets everybody lost. Keep centered.
