The 10-year veteran caught just 64 passes last year for 796 yards and three touchdowns, the fewest scoring catches of his career. His total receptions and total yards were the second-lowest of his career, ahead of only his rookie season of 1999.

People must not have paid attention to that.

But still a good pickup in IMO, they needed a WR badly.

Who gives a damn if the Rams have to face him? What's he going to do? limp his gimpy ass into the endzone? This isn't the same player we once knew.

He'll bring some much needed leadership to Jacksonville, and to a position they've been failing to fix for years now. This isn't the Torry Holt that will scare opposing defenses, however.

Torry Holt had 1 more reception than Matt Jones, 35 yards more than Matt Jones, and 1 touchdown more than Matt Jones. But at least Holt doesn't snort cocaine, right?

This isn't exactly another Kurt Warner situation, where he'll come back to bite us on the ass.. Because that guy still has some left in the tank... I don't give a damn if we have to meet Torry Holt. His busted up ass won't be leading any team to a super bowl. Decent signing, unless you overpay.

          Sorry, Jags fans.

Looking waaaaaaay too hard into this one.

Jacksonville doesn't NEED Big Play Holt of the Greatest Show on Turf days, we just need a guy, a veteran, that can come in, be a good, positive influence on a team that will be young and make some catches and move the chains.

The Jags are a run first team...but, what they've lacked in just a consistent football player at wide receiver. If Holt can come in and give us anything close to 70 catches, 1000 yards, and 7 touchdowns, the signing is a slam dunk. I don't think that is expecting too much.

The Jaguars signed Tra Thomas under similar circumstances. A guy, getting old, but can still play at a fairly high level to come in and maybe give us a year or two of solid service at the end of their career that can lead the way into some young guys taking over at some point. Also, it doesn't pigeon-hole us into having a real NEED at a position on draft day, so we can go ahead and take the best available player or trade down.

Holt + hopefully a solid Rookie + Leftovers (Mike Walker, Dennis Northcutt) > Matt Jones + Reggie Williams + Jerry Porter + Leftovers

              Especially from a consistency take.

Just need to hope Holt stays healthy.

I know people mention that it was Holt's worse year statistically but it was also Marc Bulger's worse year statistically with a 57% completion rate, 2,720 yards, and only 11 touchdowns. The entire rams o-line was banged up, they were just a bad team. Jackson wasn't doing anything until week 4 and he barely passed 1,000 yards on the season.

I think Holt's production dip was also because the entire team, and most importantly Bulger's, production dipped as well. I'm not saying he hasn't lost a step as he has, but I don't think it's that big of a step as people are making it out to be.
