I've been a lifelong Sharks fans but I wish Pronger was a Shark.
I don't believe in the term "dirty player" when it comes to hockey. Pronger is a beast. He plays hard, he leads, he has a huge shot, he manhandles opponents, he is the ultimate D-Man. He is what Hitler was striving for...but on ice skates.
I'd love to see him in a Sharks jersey. I don't care about the dude is like personally, I don't know him and I don't care if he enjoys spitting on babies in his spare time, all I know is that he is going to make your team much better and that's all that matters.
I really think people that enjoy throwing the term "dirty player" around have never actually played sports in their life. You go all out and you play within the rules but you do everything in your power to win games. There is a difference between chippy and dirty, Pronger isn't like Donald Brashear or Todd Bertuzzi. He is chippy but he isn't dirty, he doesn't take cheap shots after the whistle or go after guys when they have their back towards him.Last edited by Tailback U; 07-07-2009, 12:35 PM.Comment

Just saying.
I despise the guy myself, but he's a world class defencemen. Hockey isn't a 'clean' sport by any stretch of the imagination.Comment

Pronger has been my favorite d-man since the year 2000, when I saw him play his heart out literally, anyone remember his heart stopping?, in the playoffs.
Hatcher and Rathje played amazing for us, especially Hatcher, the guy played with one leg and seperated shoulder last year, and was still a force.
But Pronger is one of the best and can play another 5 years no problem.

There's also a reason why the St. Louis Blues won the Presidents Trophy in 2000, there's also a reason the Edmonton Oilers made it to game 7 of the stanley cup finals, there's also a reason the Anaheim Ducks won a stanley cup and were a force over the past 3 seasons.
Just saying.

This is a business. There are no friends in sports. I know that when I played football I tried to take heads off every chance I got. Whether I was practicing against my very own teammates or playing in a game against my arch rival, I tried to take heads off. Never illegally, but borderline dirty (crackback blocks and what not were too fun to pass up, even against my own teammates).Last edited by Tailback U; 07-07-2009, 04:06 PM.Comment

Rathje is on LTIR (Long Term IR)
His numbers are on the books, but the Flyers are allowed to go above the Salary Cap to the amount of which they owe Rathje, so it's basically like he's not even there even though they do it that way.
So yeah, his money doesn't count towards your cap.Comment

Just caught up in the thread and missed a lot. Figure I'll multi-quote and weigh in.

Exactly. You can despise a player but still respect him for how hard he plays the game. I despised Theo Fleury because he was a little fucking terror every time he played the Sharks but I would have loved to have him on my team. Same goes for guys like Tie Domi and Bryan Marchment (who I hated before he came to San Jose).
