Oh, this is a real thread. Whole time I thought it was a joke....So, metaphorically speaking, our physiology basically has the universe mapped out and you're thinking it needs to be taught addition & subtraction.

The Ashes is the biggest series in cricket which is played between England and the Aussies
I guess Matt decided to make the thread because there is a few English and Australian people on this siteComment

England needed to bat out the day to draw the game and Australia needed to bowl us out to win . England went like 70-5 and then Collingwood batted for like 5hours until he went out . England`s last two batters saved the game for us . If we had lost one more wicket in that last hour we would have lost the game.
So its 0-0 going to the 2nd testComment

Question: Can anyone give me the a simple description of the game of cricket? I understand it's like American Baseball? And I've seen footage of cricket, but I'm not sure exactly what I'm looking at. Just a simple version, like you describing soccer (ex, 11 v. 11, strikers, forwards, wings, defenders, goalie, etc.) and how exactly is it scored?25-02, 23:16 Yawkey Way celtics fucking suckComment

One team is bowling/feilding and the other is Batting
How this is decided is via a coin toss
There is 3 different forms , Test Match , One Day and 20-20 but we will just talk Test match since thats what the Ashes is
Its scheduled for 5 days , all in a row . From about 11am till 6pm for all 5days
Both teams get to bat 2 times , you get 10 wickets . To get a wicket the bowling team needs to either hit the stumps on a delivry or catch you in the feild without the ball bouncing . There is also LBWs where the ball would have hit the stumps but the Batsmans pads has blocked the ball doing so . This is obviously to avoid batsman just using thier pads on every delivery that is straight on . You score runs many ways , you can hit it into the feild and run for one , two , 3 and even sometimes four . This is just simply hitting it into an open space and running from one end to the other . You can also hit the ball to what they call the "Boundry" which is just a rope going around the pitch . If it hits them ropes while bouncing or rolling it is a 4 automaticly . If it goes over the ropes with no bounce its a six automaticly
So obviously now you can see how runs are accumlated and same for wickets .
You must have two batsmen in at one time . But once you are out thats it until the 2nd time round your team gets to bat unlike Baseball where you can bat 2-3 times in a night . There is no real positions but there is different types of players , I will try explain .
For Batting you have
1 and 2 - Opening Batsmen - Pretty obvious , they open the teams batting
3-4 - Are the upper order batsmen . Number 3 and 4 are normally a teams most skillfull bastman
5-7 - Are the Middle Order - Normally guys who can bat well but not as skilfful as the guys above
8-11 - Are the Lower Order/Tailend - These guys are normally Bowlers , guys who specify in getting the other teams batsmen out . These guys are not expected to score much for the batting
When feilding there is just positions like , Slip , Mid off - Mid On . There is many so I will just leave that there
For Bowling we have different types of bowlers
Fast Bowlers - These guys are normally pretty lightning quick , they can bowl up from 90-100 MPH (Ask Matt for the KPH lol)
Spin Bowler - Normally around 45-65 MPH but they spin the ball which can deceive a batter . Strangly enough a good spin bowler normally takes more wickets than a good Fast Bowler
Medium Pacers - These guys are normally just contain bowlers , they bowl pretty straight and make it hard to score quickly .
As for the Feilding positions un-like in Baseball they are very inter-changble in cricket . At any moment you can change his feilding position/place
To win you have to bowl the other team out two times while having more runs scored in total basicly .
I know this is a long explanation but I wanted to make it like this so anybody with any questions can see
Hopefully this either helped or confused the shit outta youLast edited by Archer; 07-12-2009, 03:00 PM.Comment

I remember when our sub ran out Ponting in 2005 , he moaned SOOOO MUCH
Just bowl our 2 shittiest batters out , its not hard
It was a smart ploy to waste time , similar to how teams bitch about the light when they are losing wickets . Austrailia did that in 2005 aswell lol
