That's bullshit, imo. My friend and I were talking about the Lesnar pro wrestler post fight interview after 100. His statement, like yours was,"hey, it's great because it brings heat and brings in fans". Honestly, fuck fans like that. If you can't appreciate fighting and mixed martial arts for what it is and need fake banter and bullshit to get you hyped for a fight, then you suck and shouldn't watch the sport. Do I need bulletin board material and shit talking between football teams to get me hyped for a big game? No.

Lesnar is a topic unto itself. I'm leaving that alone.

To put it into perspective, Mike Tyson was more exciting when he spoke few words, wore a towel with a hole in it, and beat motherfuckers up than later on when he fought tomato cans, ate ears, and told people he'd eat their children. Royce Gracie wasn't a showman and guess what. Dude made me get into MMA. The reason I started watching this sport is because someone told me of this unassuming dude who went out and fucked dudes up. Bottom line, fuck stars and fuck hype. Show me a good fight, that's all I care about.

Mike Tyson drew more money, and his biggest PPV buyrates, when he started biting ears and eating children. Just sayin'.


Look man, i'm with you, and everyone who cares enough about MMA to post here is with you. We all prefer to good fights and great fighters.

But the fight game, whether it's MMA (Kimbo, old Ken Shamrock), boxing (crazy Tyson, washed up Oscar), prowres (Hogan), whatever, is all about star power. The public will pay for stars, not skills.

I'm watching a fantastic Sengoku show from earlier in the week as I type this. It's much better than UFC 101. I can pretty much promise you that the WEC show tonight will be better than the UFC show, too.

If I put all three on TV, at the same time, and told everyone in advance, thanks to my time machine, that the Sengoku & WEC shows were going to be much better, the UFC show would still crush both in the ratings.

Why? Because people want to see BJ & Forrest & Anderson, and nobody cares about the top japs or no names.

It's the reason UFC was scraping by, doing barely 100k buys for a good show, pre Spike. TV created stars, stars = money. It had nothing to do with the fights being better post 2005, because they weren't.

I got Silva and Penn.

I don't know why you guys think Griffin is going to come in with a takedown gameplan and try to fight out of his style. Forrest is a stand up fighter and loves to trade. He will get suckered into a slug-fest whether he wants to or not and Silva will pick him apart.

Forrest will be cut within the first round. He can stand and trade with anyone because of his chin but Anderson Silva is on another level.

I'd like to think that Forrest won't stand up and trade with Silva but I don't see it happening even if that is his gameplan.

Pretty much went exactly how I thought it would. Rob kept hyping up Forrest's new and improved ground game and how he will come in with a ground game attack. Forrest is a fighter, I knew he couldn't resist standing and trading with Silva, and I knew Silva would pick him apart.

That said, I'm sure Forrest regrets not trying to take this fight to the ground and trying to stand and trade with Silva. I don't think even he or anyone in his camp realized that Anderson Silva is the most technical boxer in MMA.

I really want to see Silva Vs. Machida.

as a casual fan and in a house full of casual fans besides a few diehards this PPV was fing terrible. This is the main reason why i hate having to pay for this. WTF did i just watch?

The reason I've been so livid about Affliction PPVs. Those guys just put on wayyy better fights and gave you your moneys worth. Their matchups are just better, the UFCs match making is just horrid. The UFC puts on horrible events. They put guys together that sell or build hype, instead of two guys where their styles will make a good fight. Thankfully I got to watch th fights last night for free thanks to a couple of bets I won.

I think people get too caught up in the x-factors of the fight. The weight difference with Silva or BJ's cardio, Henderson's age, etc. Just pick who you think is the best fighter. That's all.

BJ Vs. Diego is a really tough pick for me. I honestly don't know who I'd pick for that one yet.

Silva Vs. GSP is also another really tough one for me but I'd have to lean toward GSP because he is a takedown machine and not dumb enough to try and trade punches with Silva, not to mention his kicks add a whole nother element.

Silva Vs. Machida is obviously another tough one but I think Silva's striking is more polished than Machida's because of Machida's awkward stance. But I haven't seen enough of Machida.
