CBC is the same group who got the political debate moved up to the second week of the election because of the NHL playoffs. So this doesn't surprise me. Although what does it say when Wedding > Hockey > Politics. All you need to know when thinking of the NHL vs Madden series is the two people involved in making the games.
"rammer" and "cummings"
The NHL series is a giver, Madden takes the load.Comment

Easily the best game I've ever been too. I even had some drunk college hottie groping me and slapping my ass during the game. It was pure euphoria when they won. AWESOMENESS...Comment

It still bothers me to this day that while watching that NHL 24/7 thing when they went to the dressing room after he was hit he clearly was out of it and there was no training staff or even anything from the coach about it. I guess the new nhl rules now would of prevented that but still.

Gotta love this Pronger conversation, Tim Pannachio is a douche:
To set the scene, Pronger purposely ignored a question from Panaccio during the media scrum just prior to this exchange.
Pronger: (To me as Tim's walking over) Here comes Tim. Watch this.
Tim: You didn't answer my question.
Pronger: You had a question?
Tim: Yeah, and you didn't answer it.
Pronger: Let's hear it.
Tim: Are you surprised that Boston didn't score a single power play goal in the (first round of the) playoffs.
Pronger: Am I surprised?
Tim: Yeah. That's almost unheard of.
Me: It is. It's never happened.
Pronger: There you go. There's always a first for everything. There's always firsts. They scored three overtime-winning goals. That in itself makes up for all the power play stuff.
Tim: Given your power play has struggled almost as much as theirs...
Pronger: (cutting Tim off) Wow, how many did we get?
Tim: How many did you get?
Me: You got five.
Pronger: (dripping with sarcasm) Oh, We got five. Ohhhhh.
Tim: Big difference.
Pronger: Oh? Zero and five, that's close isn't it?
Tim: You were seven percent.
Pronger: Is that what it was?
Tim: Yeah.
Pronger: Are you sure?
Tim: Yeah.
Me: Actually it was 14 percent.
Pronger: (to Me) Thank you. (to Tim) Get your stats right and then come back and talk to me.
Tim: You think this is a series where the power play is going to make the difference?
Pronger: (to Me) What was our power play percentage?
Me: Fourteen.
Pronger: Ohhhhh. O.K.
Tim: It was seven before you came back and then it went to 14.
Pronger: Ohhhh. O.K. Well, 14 and seven aren't the same Tim.
Tim: It's double.
Pronger: (surprised that Tim's math is so good, he raises his eyebrows) Ahhhh....
(general laughter from the audience of the rest of the media and Flyers staff present).
Pronger: Double? So, make sure you have your stats correct before you ask a question. Because it's very misleading.
Tim: It was seven before it became 14 percent.
Pronger: You see, but that's not a question. You're trying to make a statement Tim with your question and it doesn't work that way.
Me: (To Tim) You want help?
Tim: (ignoring me) Are you going to see this as a difference in the series, these two teams that can't seem to score power play goals? Whoever gets the most is probably going to win this.
Pronger: You're still not getting it Tim. I still don't understand the question.
Me: (Finally coming to the rescue) How important will special teams be in this series?
Pronger: Special teams are always important. Whether you look at the negatives like Tim, or look at the positives accomplished, penalty kill and power play are always essential to winning in the playoffs and this series is going to be no different.
Me: (to Tim) Happy?
Tim: (Grumbles a response kind of like yeah)
Pronger: You're better than that Tim! You're better than that.
(At this point I turned off my recorder... there was another few seconds of back and forth between them before Pronger walked off, feeling victorious).Comment

this game is fuckin great. two great teams just playing hard.
bit pissed the ref gives offsetting minors to pavelski (snow shower) and howard (2 punches to pavelski's face), wtf is up with that.
san jose has been the better team, just gotta find a way to bury one.Comment

Great game. San Jose outplayed Detroit in pretty much every facet of the game. Just a great all around effort from everyone.
Some really cheesy calls (Pavelski's snowshower and Heatley's interference) early on but the Sharks seemed to get the calls late in the 3rd and in OT.
Well deserved win. On to the next one.
Good amount of Detroit fans at the arena tonight, which is common. They are loud when Detroit is up and playing well but then got real quiet when San Jose seemed to be generating chance after chance even though the Wings had the lead. They're usually pretty well mannered and smarter than most hockey fans at the tank, though.Comment

Here's one of the things I dislike most about the NHL, while SJ was on their 4-minute PP in OT one of the announcers said "Well now you have to look for a call to be made against you since you just had 4 minutes of PP time."
No, bullshit, you can't make calls to "even" things out, there should only be penalties called when there are actually penalties, that's ridiculous.Comment

Good game from what i was able to watch, hopefully Game 2 will be the same but different outcome

Both teams went back and forth for most of the 1st period but I'd say Detroit was playing better until they got the first goal. After that, San Jose kicked it up a notch and started to really pick up the pace.
Datsyuk had a great game, as usual. I really hope I never see Wallin on the ice with him ever again in my life.Comment

BTW, Zetterberg doesn't look 100%, IMO. I was watching him specifically on a backcheck at one point and his strides were short and choppy. I don't even know what his initial injury was but it really looked like he wasn't skating full speed.
I also think the Wings need to split him and Datsyuk up to match the Sharks depth a little better.Comment

Last nights game just seemed boring as hell to me but thats normal for a detroit game.
Detroit really looked flat though you could tell there was some rust except for jimmy howard who played really well.
Zetterberg didn't look like himself but he's been off a while now too and that was his first game back. He could still be injured as well though.
San Jose did a really good job keeping the puck contained in the corners in their own end. Detroit either rolls with putting people in front of the net and letting shots go from the point or passing it around till something opens and san jose had most of those bases covered. They were forcing detroit at the end to just dump and chase but usually just resulted in san jose's defense getting the puck back up the ice and having another odd man rush occured.
