    OHHHH WHEN THE REDSSSSS

I'm not using this as an excuse for the series being where it is, but for the 2nd game in 3 the Wings got a gift from a missed call by the Ref.

Kronwall, who would get the primary assist just moments later, is coming on here for a guy in the middle of the ice during Detroit possession.

Here's the offside on the Bertuzzi goal in Game 4.

It's one thing to miss calls, but it's another to miss calls that are ending up in goals.

Officiating has been abysmal in most games these playoffs.

Wow a line change behind the play for the Defense. That happens all the time. Anyways you want to talk about phantom calls? What about when they gave the Sharks the powerplay when the Red Wings got goalie interference lmao, then 10 minutes later Jimmy Howard got slashed in the mask and no call. Listen the referees in the NHL can be bad but give me a break dude.

If Kronwall actually waited until he legally could come on the ice, then he wouldn't have been in the spot he was to create the goal. I wouldn't expect someone as daft as yourself to be able to piece that together.

It's hardly something that "happens all the time" without being called.

Howard's mask play was as bad of a sell job as Luongo's was vs Nashville. How about Boyle's "phantom" hold in the first, where the only explanation the commentators could give was that it was a makeup call for Murray's hit on Cleary, which really wasn't a penalty anyways.

As I said, the officiating as been abysmal......for everyone.

I thought the Red Wings were crashing the net all game. Perhaps that was just a byproduct of Detroit getting so many shots, but I was surprised that the refs allowed it to go on so long. They eventually had to call a penalty on Holmstrom because he lifted Niemi's blocker when the puck was coming in. It affected the play. The slash on Howard didn't affect the play at all. I think thats the point...some of these no-calls are leading directly to goals.

The call on Holmstrom was kinda chincy but the reffing has been like that all playoffs.

It's gone both ways at this point.

I'm kinda steamed I didn't goto that game. It really came down to our one buddy who would of drove there and he was being indecisive for the last couple days.

There's little room for logic in the NHL random thoughts thread.

I'm glad Nabokov is gone from San Jose, he always made himself small when it came playoff time and easily got bossed around his own crease. He would have been destroyed tonight.

Hopefully the fact that they are now on the ropes will inspire them to play fearlessly, because last night the Sharks were afraid to make mistakes and let Detroit be the aggressor. On Powerplays, the Wings would play aggressive as if it was FIFA 11 just bull charging the player with the puck, but nobody would react and take away the space opening up leaving the puck carrier with no options but to play along the boards.

Detroit has been setting up shop in front of the net for the last 20 years.

Thomas Holmstrom has a permanent bar stool there with his favourite drink ready for him everytime.

They've done a great job and screening Niemi and standing their ground all series. I think Niemi has gotten lucky on more than a few of his saves because he can't even see the shots coming in. That said, it seemed like last night Detroit had no hesitation about crashing into Niemi.

What's funny is that is how the Sharks were playing in the first 3 games. Crashing the net and giving Howard snow showers without thinking twice.

Seems like they backed off once they went up 3-0 and all the fuss about snow showers could have softened them up a little bit as well when it comes to crashing the net and getting in Howard's grill.

I expect to see a hell of a game tomorrow night and am anticipating overtime.

I picked the Sharks in 7, just didn't think it would take this route to get there.

The Sharks really need Clowe in the lineup. I'm guessing he will play no matter what, I just hope he isn't too banged up. I don't think they can win without him.

They can win without Clowe, they need to be able to do that or they don't deserve to be there.

The team has enough talent, they just need to want it more and clearly Detroit wants it more right now.

I almost wonder if they were just saving their legs for Game 7 with how some of those guys pushed themselves last night....or rather didn't push themselves.

It's not about talent. Most sports, but especially hockey, are never about talent.

As I've been saying since the start of the playoffs, you never know what Sharks team is going to hit the ice on any given night.

They can win without Clowe, but I doubt they will. He is their most physical, toughest, grittiest, and strongest forward by far. And he's skilled. He brings stuff that nobody else on the team can.

I believe they can and will win (if Clowe plays) because this team seems to put forth its best effort when their backs are up against the wall and there is nowhere else to go. I just hope Niemi brings his A game.
