Strength of schedule. Going back to May 9th when Henderson was last ranked, Evan Dunham has beaten Tyson Griffin and should have gotten the decision over Sherk. George Sotiropoulos, who already had a strong win over Joe Stevenson, beat Kurt Pellegrino. I felt that both of those wins were a bit stronger than Henderson's wins over Cerrone and Varner.
BTW, I feel that 1-8 are the only 'concrete' guys at lightwight. 9-16 is where things gets fluid and all it takes a solid win or two at the right time.

Benson fights for a division in a show that is considered 2nd rate by Zuffa, why would he be ranked in the top 10 a head of the worst LW in the UFC?Liquidrob's Top 10 Fighters Rankings

SF and Japan guys have contracts in their own right.
It'd be like asking why Brian Stann wasn't on a Top 10 list when he was WEC LHW champComment

The UFC owns the WEC. If they really though Ben Henderson could be a player in the UFC, wouldn't he be there already? Instead of wasting space on guys like Paul Taylor?

Henderson has impressed in his tenure in WEC. You're telling me Aussie George's record is better than Hendos? George's big wins are against Joe Daddy and Pelegrino (both decisions btw). Hendo has submitted both Cowboy Cerrone and Varner and knocked out Shane Roller.
Obviously there is an issue as far as fighting top 10 talent since he is the only WEC 155er considered top 10 material.
Dunhams big wins are Escudero (not even close to top ten) and Griffin (not top ten at the time) and he lost to Sherk (not top ten at the time).
And Jim Miller should get some consideration, too. I know it's only top 10 and Miller may be more of a 10-15 guy but he has done nothing but win...unless he's being grounded by Maynard and Edgar.
I'm not saying it's a crime like some on the net do when Fedor isn't ranked top 2....but there is a damn good argument.

I think it's some flawed logic. Benson is an exciting fighter who is well spoken and you'd think would be an easy sell. Jamie Varner was in the UFC and lost to Hermes Franca and beat a chump. Cerrone is 3-3 in his last 6 fights. I'd favour Sotiropolous, Stevenson and Pelegrino over both of those guys
Benson is a product of his competition. I just don't see a reason why, if Dana and co thought that Benson could actually compete in the UFC, they left him wallowing in the WEC for so longComment
