I like Timmonen too, but in today's cap era a $6.33M cap figure for a number two D is pretty damn high.
Briere has four more years at $6.5M cap ... and he's not going to get better as a player.
The Flyers, obviously, badly need to get that real #1 goalie. Their current cap situation makes that tough.
Dwayne Roloson is a UFA in the summer, the Flyers should overpay him on a one-year deal.

No way in hell would we trade probably our best goal scorer and all-star in Briere for nothing. We would trade Carter and Hartnell if we absolutely had to move someone. But with the cap going up 3 million the Flyers could roll something like this out next year.

      CAPGEEK.COM CAP CALCULATOR

Apparently the Flyers FO is still high on him, and if healthy could be a good starting goalie. I think he is the best bet for the Flyers instead of overpaying for a goalie and being fucked by the cap.

Ray Emery has proven absolutely nothing as an NHL goalie. Hitching your playoff wagon to him, regardless of cap hit, is the same as your team has been doing for years.
It's like an NFL team with a lot of skill players, but no offensive or defensive lines.
If you don't have a goalie, you don't have a chance, unless you're a freak team like Detroit ... or a team like Chicago that got to play an even lousier goalie in the finals.

It's not banking it's hopes on a cup on Ray Emery. It's banking on Bob getting better and having a very solid goalie when healthy in Emery starting a good amount of games too. The Flyers don't have 5-6 million to throw at Voukon or Bryzgalov. And is much as you want the Flyers to give you Briere for nothing, it's not happening.

But that's exactly what the Flyers are doing now. Snider has already said he's sick of the crap goaltending and wants it resolved. Emery does not resolve it.

I agree giving away Briere away to solve a cap issue sucks, but the Flyers may need to make that kind of move to get a Cup. Briere has peaked, he has nowhere to go but down. His cap hit will hurt when he's way past his prime.
                  But ...
Montreal would be willing to take that chance for the added offence.

Just think Berowsk, the Flyers could have had Carey Price for Jeff Carter a year ago. DOH!

Once again I'll do this with the cap going up to 62,200,000 like it's supposed to.
A big rumor last year was Wayne Simmonds and John Quick for Jeff Carter. I don't know if the Flyers or Kings would do this, but let's say they do. Simmonds is an RFA, so let's say the Kings make him a 1 mil offer and he accepts.

Quick is not the answer for an immediate contender. That said, not sure who out there you can get will be.

So what's reasonable for Simmonds 2.5 Mil? Either way they would have the cap room to get that done.

I just looked at his stats and didn't realize he only had 30pts this year.

He would be perfect for the flyers though.

Ray Emery is probably going to win comeback player of the year award and is still a better option than anyone on their current roster. Not that it would matter since they like to play a minimum of 3 goalies per playoff series.

I don't know if I'd put it like that. He's a young goalie with playoff experience. I wouldn't be surprised to see him find much success with a more veteran playoff ready team like Philadelphia.
