    Jeff Carter traded to Columbus

Jeff Carter has been told he's been traded from the Philadelphia Flyers to the Columbus Blue Jackets.

In exchange for Carter, the Flyers are expected to receive Jakub Voracek, plus first and third round draft picks.

Last season, Carter scored 36 goals and 66 points, he also had two points in six playoff games as the Flyers were eliminated by the Boston Bruins in the first round.

The 26-year-old forward was drafted by the Flyers 11th overall in the 2003 Entry Draft and had a career high 46 goals in the 2008-09 season.

Carter, who has 11-years remaining on contract that will have a cap hit of just over $5.272 million will give the Blue Jackets a much needed scorer to play along side their captain Rick Nash.

The 21-year-old Voracek recorded 14 goals and 32 assists in 80 games last season, after recording 16 goals and 34 assists in the 2009-10 season. He is currently a restricted free agent.

Voracek was drafted seventh overall by the Blue Jackets in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

By dealing Carter, the Flyers have likely opened up enough cap space to sign recently acquired goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov, who is set to become a free agent on July 1.

The Flyers acquired the rights to the 30-year-old Bryzgalov, two weeks ago in a deal with the Phoenix Coyotes. Philadelphia shipped over a third-round draft pick in 2012, forward Matt Clackson and future considerations.

    More details to follow.

That is huge for columbus. Finally someone that is going to play along side nash.

Seeing how bad columbus's drafting has been over the years this just makes sense.

All you need to know when thinking of the NHL vs Madden series is the two people involved in making the games.

I really am about to go nuts. We are keeping guys like Hartnell and Versteeg but about to give up Carter AND Richards? FOR TWO RFA's!?

Done deal, and it's a blockbuster. Phi trades captain Mike Richards to LA for Brayden Schenn and Wayne Simmonds.

I am not a huge fan of LA parting with Schene. Like what is the point in doing that. Obviously I know they need another guy other then Kopitar doing some scoring, but all this trading is just weird.

Would love to know what the FLyers are doing. In two season, Simon Gagne, Jeff Carter and Mike Richards all gone. I guess they really think Claude Giroux, Danny Briere, Ville Leino and James van Riemsdyk are going to do something amazing next year. If they don't sign Brygalov, there is going to be huge questions to answer in that group.

Plus, does anyone else think the FLyers issue with goalie could have simply been solved by playing one more then the other, and stop this back and forth. If Boucher was your starter, make him it. If Bob's was the starter, then make him it. Don't flip flop all season long.

Schenn and the 8th overall pick are the only reasons why I haven't jumped off a bridge yet.

But the stupid thing is, the 8th over pick is going to be in most cases another defencemen. They may get lucky and land a Ryan Strome, which i highly doubt, or they may go with Ryan Murphy. So it might work out in trying to put youth on the team, but the Flyers had so much depth, that doing this seems just, weird.

And it all unfolds if Bryzgalov doesn't get signed. Though I am waiting for that deal to come through the pipe today.

I'm going to also look at this from the other side.

Columbus is sitting so great right now. With $21M in cap sapce, and about 10 guys to sign, then could really make a huge move here with the team going forward. Carter now because of the two go to guys in Columbus, where as in Philly, he was one of many. They should go out and put an offer in on someone like an Alex Tanguay for another winger to really build up that front line. Or, they can give Filatov that one more try and put him on the wing with them.

With this trade you do go to look at the draft and what is coming. 11 years of Carter, so basically he is locked in, or do you take a chance on a Ryan Strome, Ryan Murphy or whoever else falls and work them up the prospect line and hope they somehow fall into place.
